just looked again at the 1881 census . Margaret would be the right age for the wedding certificate . but John 2 years old is listed as John Huntable. :-S |

I was given a copy of a wedding certificate by one of John's granddaughters It is a wedding in 1883 between George Thomas and Margaret Thomas. The granddaughter is pretty definate that George was Johns .brother.As he was 28 when he married George would be have been born in 1856 which would make him 23 year older than John . So I'm wondering if he was John's father ,not his brother ..and if he had a son named George..,In the 1881 census the grandmother that John was living with in 1891 had a daughter Margaret living with her .. I thought she might be the one on the certificate ,but there is a three year age difference |

Thanks. I have got that record and it seems probable. Especially with the Cambridge /Cowbridge note. Did find out that she had a daughter ,and wonder if she was unmarried.and he had her maiden name. |

I'm wrong about the measurements Map is three miles to the inch . So Merthyr would be 30 Miles and Llanelly 45 Miles Too far I think. but could check.. |

A very rough measurement Llanelly would be about 15 miles from Bridgend and Merthyr would be 10. But they are steep mountain roads. Don't know what they would have been like in 1896 . will have to wait until tomorrow to check with the record office. On Frededrick's birth certificate John Thomas's occupation is Tanner. |

Have you rejected the 1896 Llanelly marriage? If married in July 1897, they would only have been married 13 years in April 1911 when the census was taken but married in Apr-June 1896 it would be 14. |

Hi Adaline . The fathers on the certificate are Thomas Thomas and John Richards . John Richards would be the right name for my Great grandmothers father . but as i said ,the ages are wrong. |
