hi i have a flora mckillop born in 1821 to john mckillop and elizabeth robertson in the parish of kilmory,shiskine and lochranza on the isle of arran
i also have flora mckillop getting married to robert fairlie in the cardross district dumbartonshire 30 nov 1833 but my problem is that flora would only be 12 yrs old.
would people be married at that age in the 1830s in scotland

Well in England /Wales they could marry at 12 and boys at 14 with parental consent. not sure if this also applied to Scotland

This is Flora McKillop married to Robert Fairlie ... not the Flora born in 1821 which might help clear up the age question.

Apologies, I have encountered a problem.....

There were two births for a child called Flora McKillop on Arran
One was the child of John McKillop and Elizabeth Robertson and the other the daughter of Donald McKillop and Catherine Kelso.
Their baptisms were less than a year apart and I suspect that tthe info above refers to the child of Donald and Catherine?
It also looks as if James Bennie was a widower. The 2 older children could not stem from an 1843 marriage.
