I am trying to find the actual birth date of Thomas Gibbon born around 1780 his wife was Elizabeth born around 1782, (no idea of name before marriage) any information would be a big help and much appreciated. I must add that I am new to this game and have just taken over the search from my son.

You will not be able find an exact DOB.........the only record you will find is a baptism

Try looking for it at...................

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

How did you work back to him?

Is your son a GR member?

Has he asked about this?

patchem

patchem Report 24 Nov 2012 07:55

Do you know if he was usually called Gibbon or Gibbons?
England or Wales (or elsewhere)?
Presumably you have him in 1841 census to have a rough idea of age?
Could you copy over that information?
Thank-you

Added:
Not seeing an obvious Thomas and Elizabeth Gibbon on 1841 census in England or Wales on Ancestry.
More information, please.

Added for AnnCardiff:
There is this one local to you in 1861 Welsh census...
Name: Thomas Gibbon
Birth: abt 1781 - Bonvilston, Glamorgan, Wales
Residence: 1861 - Cardiff St Mary, Glamorgan, Wales

lots of Gibbons round my area - good friends just up the road - a large Gibbons presence here in Whitchurch, Cardiff

I've asked poster to come back with some more info

Thanks for the e-mail. there is no s on the end of the surname, it is Gibbon. All of the family after Thomas were born in County Durham and most of them still live there except my branch, which lives in Northumberland since about 1850. Regards John G

can I suggest you take time to read the postings at the top of the Find Ancestors Board - the one about Basics and the advice from Genes

There are stacks of Thomas Gibbons in Durham married to Elizabeth's you have to give us something a bit more definite - how did you get back to him, what's his father's or mother's name, what children did he have, anything

JohnGib Report 24 Nov 2012 19:34

Hi Ann
I know there is a lot of Thomas Gibbon's in Durham, it seems the eldest son is always named Thomas. The only information I have concerning Thomas & Elizabeth (White) is what has been passed down by my son. It is really the father and mother of this Thomas I am interested in and being new to the game I am at loss to know how to go about finding them. I am busy working through the information you have sent so far. Thanks a lot and I'm sorry if I am causing you some grief but I am finding the site a bit awkward to use, suppose I will get it right eventially.
Regards John G.

Hi Ann
Thanks for all the help, You'll not need to kill me , I'll probably commit suicide before you get time!
Just a couple of questions.
1 How did you do it so quickly
2 What do the letters at the end signify (4W7V-ZPH)

I gather you live in or around Cardiff. If you do, I hope you have not been having trouble with the floods lately.

Regards John G.

AnnCardiff Report 24 Nov 2012 23:39

I'm in Whitchurch, suburb of Cardiff 4m north of city centre near Jct 32 of the M4 and yes, we have plenty of rain - fortunately the river Taff is about half a mile away

the info I posted if from the free Mormon site - www.familysearch.org

I believe the letters are something to do with their indexing system - you can go in any Mormon church and ask to see the records - they also sell C Ds I believe

If you want members to help you, PLEASE...go to Mark's post on here........and REMOVE the 'marked as answered' tag.

Ann found all of the info she posted on the FREE site for which I gave you the link on Nov 21st

When your son was a member, did he post any requests for help about this family?

You say he passed info to you.....did that include location?

JohnGib

JohnGib Report 26 Nov 2012 09:45

It's more than 4 years ago my son posted any request on the site. and he has lost all of the contact list

I only took over from my son a couple of weeks ago and I am finding the research pretty hard going as I have never been involved in it 'till now, so any help is really appreciated.
