getting a copy of a will is quite easy but be prepared to wait a while for it.

Jonesey has kindly put a whole thread on how to do it. This is the link

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 3 Dec 2012 23:51

I thought that I had posted earlier today, apologising for letting my excitement in "finding the marriage" get in the way of checking out the facts before I posted.

Sorry to be misleading, as you say, Abraham married Jane in Dudley.

Since my previous (lost) post I have looked on A---ry to see if anyone has got Abraham and Hannah on a tree there.

Well, someone has got an Abraham born c1823 married to a Hannah Haslett.

Again I thought ... "this could be them!" However, there are many differences,

Their Abraham was not born in Staffs, but was living there (not not in Sedgley) in 1861 Census with his wife Hannah. He was a Cordwainer. The couple had children.

This Hannah was about the same age as Abraham, not ten years older!
These two rather major differences seem to make it obvious that it is a different couple.

HOWEVER, the woman who has them in her tree has called it the BAKER tree!

She does not have a record of the couple in 1871 or 1881 Census, but seems to think that they moved to Australia.

Abraham Carter married Hannah Haslett in 1844.

PS Now I'm hoping that the name of her tree was Baker, not BARKER.

I think that I need to get some sleep.

Sorry if I have confused anyone. :-(

I cannot find a marriage for Abraham and Nancy/Ann I 'm wondering if maybe they where not married although on census and death cert it says wife,
Abraham was single on 1851 census age 30 I still cannot find him on the 1861 but could it be that Nancy was married before as she was 10 years older than Abraham I know it's no help as I have no maiden name for her but just a thought

Hello lancashireAnn,

How and where do I get a copy of the will never had one

Mary :-)

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 3 Dec 2012 23:09

It could be worthwhile applying for a copy of the will. John Baker was named as 'one of the executors'. Who was the other. Who else was named in the will?

The copy would tell you this and if you are lucky would give some ideas of family relationships. Sometimes they are disappointing but at others they contain a wealth of useful information.

I have one will which names all the people, including a brother, who lived in his small area.
