At the Dollar Academy, Dollar, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, there is a war memorial to students who died in WW1 and WW2. This gives details of their rank and company -- not always a Scottish one. There is also a typed list which gives second names, some of which could give a clue to their family.

The URL is http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2812

There are two Robertson boys - Ian and David - whose company ID cannot be found. If they turn out to be your family, please let me know.

I am looking for husbands of Robertson daughters Isabella (1864), Margaret (1866), Ann (1868), and Jessie (1879) whose father was Peter Robertson (1834). (All +-1 yr.)

Thank you very much, Barbara and Chris!
I have replied to you, Barbara, with my personal email, from my Messages. You're right, the attachments didn't come through.

Funny that I found a Peter Robertson Saunders on the memorial today, just by accident. I had since been looking for a marriage of Margaret and a George Saunders, just in case, because Peter Robertson was Margaret's father. I didn't find it with Family Search, but had better luck with you. Lots of serendipity.

Chris, thanks for the list on FMP. The lads in our family all went to the Academy at that time, so their sons might also have gone there. There are very few Robertsons on the list, but some would have other surnames, whom I've yet to find.
Way to go! Thanks again.

Yes, thanks, Barbara. Have replied to your private email.

Barry - Thanks so much for the lead -- I do appreciate it, but the link is to a 'please sign up and pay' ad from Ancestry.com. If GR crashes I'll have to do it, but at the moment, with reluctance, I am living up to my Scottish/Yorkshire heritage!

Penpal
I can't understand why you are getting that page - here is an alternative route which is free

https://www.mundia.com/gb

Penpal Report 1 Dec 2012 01:33

Barry, thanks again, but what exactly is it that you're trying to help me find? That Mundia link again asks me to sign up as a member and start a tree. Links to pages that have required a membership and password to access generally just revert to the 'join up' invitation. I'm trying to travel light, genealogically speaking.

BarbaraFromYorkshire Report 1 Dec 2012 04:20

Hi Penpal,
The links are to a tree on Ancestry ---good find Barry, It wasn't coming up on the "hints" for me on Ancestry ---

I will e-mail you Penpal.

Penpal
I am trying to help you by ,
firstly, via my Ancestry subscription giving you access to a family tree by way of link to click on to which I think will be helpful to you
Why you are getting a subscription page I don't know - It worked OK for Barbara (above posting)
Because it wasn't working for you I supplied you with an alternative free route to the Ancestry trees (Mundia)
All you have to do is register - no charge -and it is not a condition that you must start a tree with them
Hope this clarifies - give it another go
regards Barry

BarbaraFromYorkshire Report 1 Dec 2012 16:55

Hi Barry
The link to Ancestry worked for me because I am a member of Ancestry,

The link to Mundia didn't work for me ---I have tried for 10 minutes to "log in" both with my Ancestry account (as it says you can) and with my Facebook account (as it says you can) however it just keeps telling me that " this e-mail is already registered -Please use another !!!! :-0

The tree on Ancestry does have some of the family on for PenPal, but not all. ie the siblings of Isabella and Margaret haven't got spouces etc. I think the tree owner may be a descendant of Isabella (nee Robertson) and James Campbell---but not sure of course.

I do take a look on Ancestry trees --but never copy anything without doing proper research myself, (someone on Ancestry had my Grandmother married to her son and her sons wife married to my grandmothers first husband !!! It took a while to straighten that one out ---but with the certs etc that I had the owner was very pleased I had contacted him to make at least that part of his family tree right lol !!! )

Best wishes
Barbara x :-)

Penpal Report 2 Dec 2012 07:53

Thank you, Barbara! I was beginning to think it was all my fault. It would be lovely to find recent descendents. I am compiling a list of certificates to apply for as being really the best way, but it is expensive, so I do thank you too, Barry, for trying so hard to set the direction for me.

Dear Barbara,
Sorry - I've been busy and not concentrating. I think I have some of those, and have thanked you, but will take a look again a.s.a.p. Meanwhile, before you go to any more expense on my behalf (you are incredibly helfpful) I do have quite a few entries already so hang fire until I can see where the gaps are.
Very best regards.
