I am trying to find parents of George Clarke born about 1818 Wortwell, Norfolk. I have found him on 1851 Census married to a Mary born 1819 but so far have not been able to get far enough back to find his parents. Any help would be appreciated.

I was thinking that this was the 1851 George?? - It is the same as Adeline's one but wife shown as Mary on FMP. (It does seem to be Amy on the image)

Could this be the same George in 1861 with wife Mary?

I've had another look at the 1851 image and I can see why Ancestry thought it was Amy and not Mary

Name: George Clark
Age: 45
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary Clark
Gender: Male
Where born: Harleston, Norfolk, England

Another possibly more likely marriage:

Name: CLARKE, George
Registration district: Depwade
County: Norfolk
Year of registration: 1841
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's last name Not available before 1912
Volume no: 13
Page no: 131

>>>>>>>>YOUELL, Mary
BALLARD, Harriet
BARBER, Mary Ann
WELTON, Sarah Ann
WHITE, Walter
ROXBY, Isaac

This certificate would give George's father's name.

I beleive the 1851 we have been looking at should certainly say 'AMY'.

This looks like their daughter Emma's christening?

Emma Clarke

England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

christening: 30 Sep 1849 Alburgh,? Norfolk,? England
residence: Alburgh,? Norfolk,? England

parents: George Clarke,? Amy

name: Emma Clarke
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 30 Sep 1849
baptism/christening place: Alburgh, Norfolk, England
father's name: George Clarke
mother's name: Amy
indexing project (batch) number: I07397-0
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1657158

SO, if that is the family Alan is following, then we should be looking for a marriage to 'Amy' which I think has already been posted above?

So many people helping. There are so many George Clarkes in Norfolk a lot of them dont have the family which I've got. Genes Reunited 1851 Census gives George Clarke as Head born 1818 Wortwell, Norfolk, Ag. Labourer. Mary born 1819 Wokefield, Suffolk. Child Mary born 1843 Alburgh, Norfolk. John born 1845 Alburgh Norfolk and Emma born 1850 Alburgh, Norfolk.
I have tried looking up Mary's maiden name and come up with Barber, Youell, Barham. Did find in 1841 George living at Starston with a family named Youell and wondered if he had got together with a daughter, I believe there was a Mary but age seemed terribly wrong. Marriage date possibly 1841 Starston. I find this all quite confusing.

This would be Amy's christening ?

If you look again at the 1851 image the name is certainly Amy and her place of birth to me looks like Homersfield, Suffolk?

England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906 about Amy Howell
Name: Amy Howell
Gender: Female
Christening Date: 28 Jan 1821
Christening Place: Homersfield, Suffolk, England

Mother's Name: Sarah

If you are convinced that you have the correct family on the 1851 then I believe the wife was Amy, not Mary !!

How have you woorked your way back to them please?

Hi All, Thanks for all the info.
Chris if you are right about their burials they both died when Emma was about 3or 4.

Dea, you asked how I worked back to them well, here goes -
Frederick Clarke b1904 Starston, Norfolk and Maud Bloomfield 1912 Hartismere, Suffolk,( my parents), then Stephen Clarke b 1871 Wortwell, Norfolk and Annie Love b 1867 Woolwich, London, then John Clarke b 1849 Alburgh Norfolk and Pamela, maiden name possibly Gower, b 1850 Denton, Norfolk, then George Clarke b 1818 Wortwell, Norfolk and Mary b 1819 Wokefield, Suffolk.
The message you sent at 11.53 the details are exactly the same as I have.
