...............may be worth keeping on file, just in case, or may help to eliminate him from your research.

However, if the marriage is correct then it could be that he married in England but spent some time in Ireland with his regiment.

As I said earlier the marriage cert. of Raymond and Catherine will give you father's name and occupation which will help confirm if this is his father, or not.

Catherine

Catherine Report 26 Nov 2012 16:35

Catherine also had siblings (all have mmn McCabe):-

Ireland, Civil Registration Births Index, 1864-1958

Birth, Baptism & Christening

NAME: Annie B Mahon
MOTHER: McCabe
BIRTH: Jun 1935 - Mohill

Annie B Mahon Apr-May-Jun 1935 Mohill

Brigid R Mahon Jul-Aug-Sep 1943 Mohill

Sheila B Mahon Jul-Aug-Sep 1945 Mohill

............which helps narrow down a marriage for parents.

Possible?

Ireland, Civil Registration Marriages Index, 1845-1958 about Owen Mahon
Name: Owen Mahon
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1933
Registration district: Mohill
Volume: 3
Page: 108 (click to see others on page)

also on same page:-

Brigid J Gilfillan Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill
Mary Kate Giloghy Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill
Mary Kate Harahan Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill

xxxxxxx Catherine McCabe Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill xxxxxxx
Peter McGuire Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill
Michael O'Rourke Jan-Feb-Mar 1933 Mohill

.....................here again the marriage cert. will confirm, or not, if this one is correct. If Catherine's father is noted as being Owen, then this could very well be the correct one, if not, then we will have to look again.

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 26 Nov 2012 18:59

If in fact the GHS b Sculcoates is correct then he was the son of John William Spokes and Mary Ellen Smith they married 1895 Reg Dec. Hull...you can find details of his parents etc on Free BMD..Mary E plus family are on 1901/1911 Census. John Wm is not present on either although he must still be around as Mary went on to have a number of children up to 1911....
John Wm was the son of Wm and Mary and b Kirk Alla Yorkshire 1873.

Eringobragh1916,

These couples are all on the same page, but if you take another look, Francis Beirne is not female but male so cannot be the spouse of George Harold Spokes?
I believe that Francis Beirne married Kathleen Lynch as there are four children born with name Beirne and mmn Lynch born between 1946 and 1951 in Inishowen.

Francis Beirne Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Sarah Cassidy Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
James Doherty Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Rosina Doherty Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Peter Harte Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Kathleen Lynch Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
Mary McLoughlin Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
George Harold Spokes Oct-Nov-Dec 1946 Inishowen
.........................................................................................................

Peter Harte looks to have married Rosina Doherty
2 children born in 1947 and 1950 with the name Harte and mmn Doherty in Inishowen.
.................................................................................................

James Doherty looks to have married Sarah Cassidy
A possible 18 children born between 1946 and 1960 with name Doherty and mmn Cassidy in Inishowen.
