Tessa/Theresa Heaver Reeves b. Hammersmith, 1895

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Unknown Report 27 Nov 2012 20:30

Tessa is my paternal grandmother who was born to Fanny Reeves, a dressmaker of 7 Coningham Road, Shepherds Bush on 16th May 1895. Her birth certificate gives her name as Tessa Heaver. Katie Heaver of 24 Artizans Dwellings, St. Marys, Dover, Kent was given charge of her "as per declaration dated twenty fifth June 1895." She was brought up as the child of Kate and Edward Heaver's with the name Theresa Heaver Reeves. I can't find any record of No.7 Coningham Road, Shepherds Bush in 1895, although other higher numbers are listed in various censuses, and I thought this might prove if she lived there, lodged there while the baby was born, or just made it up! Can anyone please help me to trace this declaration or Fanny's identity and family. Thank you. David Williams

Her middle name of Heaver could be an indication of her father's name???

Kucinta Report 27 Nov 2012 20:47

This is probably a total red herring, and not in the right area, but a Fanny Reeves dressmaker, who might have been embarrassed to be with child in 1895.

On FMP in 1911 the family are shown as Edward, Kate and Leosa!!

Kucinta Report 27 Nov 2012 21:09

Looks like that Fanny was nee Barrett, so no obvious family link to Kate.

Name: Frederick Adby Reeves -cook and clerk
Age: Full Age

Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 8 Mar 1875
Parish: St Marylebone
Borough: Westminster
Father Name: Richard John Reeves - Lock keeper

You said you cannot find 7 Coningham Road - I wanted to try to find out if it was built before or after the 1891 Census

So I thought I would look for it in 1891- but it didn't come up on an address search on FMP - just higher numbers as stated in OP which ended at the junction with Goldhawke Road - so I thought I would 'wander' around nearby roads - tried Stowe Road (including the stables) thinking that it might have ended up on that page. Then tried Goodwin - which on an address search shows numbers 1 to 10 ..... and then as I viewed the image with No 10 Goodwin Road (Hammersmith, Fulham RG12 piece 40 folio 139 page 11) I selected next image and it looks like the ODD NUMBERS for Coningham Road starting at No 1, showing No 3, 5, 9 but No 7 although not shown must the the one noted as uninhabited.

No Idea why it does not come up on address search.

Perhaps someone can check the image too as the writing is a bit wiggly

Thank you all for your input. Some of you pointed out that Tessa/Theresa has been miswritten as Rosa etc on various docs.
Kucinta - What's the evidence for Fanny being nee Barrett . Any link to 7 Coningham Road?
Lynski - Yes, I'm thinking a Heaver, probably Edward, is the father, but I can't get any further or see how he met Fanny. He was a railwayman and did spend some time in Wokingham in 1893.
Mike - I'm confident Edward Heaver and Kate Henessey got married 7/1/1893 in Reading 1893 Q1 Volume 2C page 535
Mel Fairy Godmother - How can I pursue William Reeves' Mother?
Jannie/Annie - Would there be any "Rates )ffice" records I could access to find 7 Coningham Road.
Again, thanks to all who contributed. David Williams

Dea Report 28 Nov 2012 11:15

Don't know that it is of any help but I have looked in a Directory for 1896 and it shows:

Conington Road:

3. Louis Parnell MRCS LSA Surgeon
5. Josiah Foster Fairbank
7. Mrs A.M. Smith
9. Wm Gray, Plumber.

The Surgeon was already at No. 3 on 1891 census but No. 7 was unoccupied.

Probably why the baby was born at that address

Might be a coincidence on the 1881 - Charles S (b1834) and John Rudkin (b1838) living in close proximity in Hammersmith at Brook Green - both from Northamptonshire - place looks the same to me on original images. Also John has a daughter named Fanny (niece of Charles S (F?) of 7 Coningham Road

Kucinta Report 28 Nov 2012 18:54

Re Fanny being nee Barrett - that only applies to the Fanny Reeves, dressmaker, who was a widow in 1891 that I posted previously. Her husband Frederick is described as a cook on the marriage register that I posted, and is also a cook on the 1881 census where he appears with Fanny.

However there is no obvious link to Coningham Road and as I said previously she may be a complete red herring who simply happens to share a not uncommon name, and a not uncommon occupation, with 'your' Fanny.
