Find Ancestors

Hi all,

Looking for information on ancestor. Thomas Fensom was born in Pepperstock (or Flamstead) Herts circa 1803. He married Maria Butterfield in 1829. Have managed to trace Maria's parentage but not Thomas's. I cannot seem to find a relevant christening record which fits or any other clues. I have him on all censuses. I think there is some variation in when his birth recorded with one record saying 1811.

Thomas had a daughter called Sarah (born c1834) who had illegitimate children - two twin boys called Charles and Frederick born 21 Nov 1852 in Flamstead. I have found them both in 1881 but don't have them on earlier census though I believe that they are listed as "nephew" on the 1861 census (haven't seen the full household record). Haven't had any luck finding out what happened to Sarah after 1861. If anyone could help, that'd be great.

Have you tried the County Records Office?

Presumably, the census which records his birth as c1811 is that for 1841...........ages of over-15's were rounded down to nearest '5'

I'm wondering if a baptism of Thomas Fensom in Luton in 1802 is him. Does anyone know much about Pepperstock? I assume it would be part of Flamstead or Caddington but I'm not sure, not very knowledgeable about local geography.

@Reggie - Oh yes, I had a look at google maps etc. My question was what parish Pepperstock would be in, which is not something I would discern from a road map. I think I will consult a gazetteer to see what comes up. Cheers for your suggestion.
