can you help i am looking for recards of alexander maxwell age 15 and robert maxwell age 10 they were in lostock junction certified industrial school for boys in bolton i know they were there in 1901 i like to know why they were there cannot fine any records of the school hope some one can help yours colin

Colin, it looks like the boys were in the Industrial School because their mother had died. It was not uncommon for a widower to find it difficult to look after his children and be able to work. In many cases the children were looked after by family members but this was not always possible. It looks like Isabella's parents took her daughter Mary in but perhaps they were unable to look after the boys too. In 1901 father Robert was in Glasgow with his youngest son, Luther.


You could check if the poor relief records for the area have survived and that may give you a clue to the family circumstances.
