Cherilyn Report 30 Nov 2012 06:26

Hi! Can sks please look at the listing for passengers by the name of HAIGH travelling in 1911 from London to Fremantle, Western Australia. (With any luck, after the 1911 Census!)

Raynor, Arthur, William and 2 females shown on FMP. Trying to establish if these females were wife Annice/Anice and ?daughter Phyllis.

It appears children of Annice & Raynor (who married in Halifax, Yorkshire in 1899) may have been raised by her brother Albert WILSON and his wife Ethel SHEPHERD (or vice versa), but I have no idea why this would be as Raynor lived until 1947 (Albert died in 1933!) and Annice lived til 1960. It is very confusing.

Phyllis Rayonette married into my McMeekin lot (as WILSON). She called Albert her father (with uncle in brackets) in his 'in memoriam' notices and referred to Raynor as her 'adopted father' in his! :-S

Phyllis (known as Ray) died in 1993 in Perth, Western Australia.

Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser, Chris!

Thanks for this...so she travelled as Wilson...well. Can you please see if you can spot Annice's brother Albert in 1911 Census? (he is with Annice & Raynor, and his parents, in 1901). Maybe he IS Phyllis' father after all...

OR - bit trickier - Albert's travel to Australia (he married in WA in 1915). Did he also travel with the Haighs?

Even so, Father, for it seemeth good in Thy sight.

Also no idea who Audrey is (she married Chas SMITH as HAIGH in WA in 1945)

"hanger on" - oh dear! :-D

I do like that his dad went from warehouseman to fish & chippie! :-)

And Raynor from tram conductor to plumber (though I have heard stories of men putting down trades to makes themselves more appealing as new migrants!)

Hm still single...I estimate Phyllis would have been born c1911. I thought she must be the Phyllis HAIGH born in Halifax in 1910 but now I am really confused!

Albert & Annice's mother Sarah Ann also came to WA, where she died in 1926 (name listed in other notices):

The West Australian, Wednesday 31 October 1934
WILSON. — To the memory of my dear Grannie called Home, October 31,1926; also my Father (Uncle), Albert Wilson, called Home, September 27, 1933.
Not just today, but every day, I remember. Inserted by Phyllis Rayonette.

Thanks, Chris.

Confused as to where Shoesmith fits in?

Still not clear on Phyllis' parents...wonder if she was born to Albert but then you have her listed as Haigh on the electoral roll - though that was after Albert had died.

She is a mystery!

Hello Cherilyn,
Shoesmith was maiden name of Winifred... (mother of Phyllis Haigh 1910)

1911 has her with parents (above), and Willie with his!.

to the 1911 voyage - are you saying that a Phyllis WILSON is listed as well as a Phyllis HAIGH? As 2 different ppl?

Thinking Willie is not connected to 'my' Phyllis, but could be wrong...
