Susan10146857 Report 30 Nov 2012 23:50

Could someone do a lookup for me please

I have the following information

Shields Gazette Feb 27 1904

The late Daniel Lawson, of Westoe. Interment at Harton Cemetery on Sunday, Friends please accept this intimation.

The death cannot be found on Free BMD but there seems to be one on FMP of which my subs have run out . He was born in 1829 in South Shields . I would be over the moon if someone could find the information I need to obtain a death certificate.

I have all the other information I need about him :-)

I have just checked the image on Findmypast Newspapers. It wasn't Daniel Lawson who was interred - it was his eldest daughter Elizabeth. This is the death:-

Name: LAWSON, Elizabeth
Registration district: South Shields
County: Durham
Year of registration: 1904
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 87
Volume no: 10A
Page no: 509

She died on 23rd February 1904 at the residence of her niece (Mrs Corry).

Thank you for looking Kathleen I saw that one but dismissed it as I saw no reason for him to be in Carlisle. he was in South Shields for all of the census'.

There was another Daniel Lawson who lived in Carlisle and is in the Census' I assumed the above was him.

I have been searching for years and cross referenced most of the same names even to the extent of giving or taking a few years off the ages in case mistakes were made. :-(

Ahhhh...that will teach me a lesson......Thank you Kathleen. :-D

Still can't find him though :-(

he was in 29 Low Road in 1902 after that there was no mention of him in any directories.

If this Elizabeth who died in 1904 was the daughter of "your" Daniel then he must have been born earlier than you said as Elizabeth must have been born around 1817.

I think she would have been a bit old to be his daughter.

Which census do you have Daniel in as I can't find him?

I will have to get back to you on that as I am on my iPad and searching on it is not fun by any means.....I do however remember dismissing it as The Carlisle one was accounted for. Sorry, I am not being helpful am I :-(

Susan10146857 Report 1 Dec 2012 00:51

ah yes.....that is a relative methinks......

Daniel's Father was William and his Father was Daniel.....Dorothy may have been a second wife. I have traced them back to Anstruther but they settled in Westoe.

I don't think this death of Elizabeth has anything to do with the Daniel you are looking for as Dorothy (the mother on the christening record above) is a widow in the 1851 census:-

That is the one Don't reply. I have all the census information marriages...births, Newspaper articles for Patents for him and his brother who moved to Leeds. We just cannot find his death.

KathleenBell Report 1 Dec 2012 00:58

This is the only likely death I can see for "your" Daniel Lawson although the age is out by quite a bit. The age given on death records is only as accurate as the informant's knowledge of the deceased:-

Name: LAWSON, Daniel
Registration district: Sunderland
County: Durham
Year of registration: 1907
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 68
Volume no: 10A
Page no: 477

If the Daniel that Rose has posted in the 1881 census is the correct one then he was living in Sunderland at the time.

Could be an error typing the age:

Deaths Mar 1907
LAWSON Daniel 68 Sunderland 10a 477

No other Daniel of this age in the area in 1901.

in the MI's of Harton cemetary there is an Elizabeth Lawson buried in the same grave as a William Lawson - no dates given but an email contact for details available

http://www.johnbage.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Harton Cemetery

could Elizabeth have been Daniel's mother - ages are often a bit out on death reg

I think I'd be inclined to buy this death certificate Susan just to see what address is given on it.

Good luck. I have to get to bed now or I'll never get up in the morning. Good night.

Susan10146857 Report 1 Dec 2012 01:07

So he was Kathleen.....Yes, I do believe that one would have been born 1839 .....We often wonder if they got the date wrong. I suppose we will have to send off for it and check the address and informant.......Why can't things be easy? Tsk!

Sorry for confusing you....I only intended asking for a lookup and expected it to be him. I don't have any records on me at the moment so was answering you off the top of my head.....which is never a good thing to do :-D

Thank you Don't Reply, LA and Kathleen......I think we may be a little further than when we started. I will look into all.

Good night and thank you for your help, it is much appreciated :-)
