Ian,

If you have the marriage cert for Ann and Samuel.
Could you please let us know what her father's name and his occupation also Ann's occupation and how old she was on the marriage cert.

I have found my NBI 3 edition so will have a look on that to see if I can see their burials tomorrow afternoon.

I expect as you have information relating to the Bolton/Horwich area already you will have this website

A thought!

I believe that that they probably finished their days in the Bolton/Horwich area and it is highly likely that as he was a railway worker he was employed at the Horwich Railway Works.

Coming from the Brickworks area of Staffordshire I believe he was employed building bridges, stations and tunnels. This would tie in nicely with the building of the new Railway Works in Horwich at that time (between the last 2 Censuses).

Any idea as to whether this would help my research ??

Christine

Daughter Emma (married 1898) does not show Father as Deceased.
He was still alive in 1911.
Daughter Eliza, my G Grandmother, does not appear to have been 'legally married' - extensive research (including Professional help) has found no marriage. She died in 1907 and her death certificate shows 'wife of George Craven'

(Where did divorce come into it?)

I think Ian misunderstood "if father was d'ced on a cert".

I think Jan meant deceased?

What makes you think they stayed in the area?

If he had accommodation with his job, there's a good chance he had to leave that (and possibly the area) if he retired.... Do you know if he appeared on any ER's? (if he didn't own any property then possibly not)

Have you considered looking at death entries in local newspapers? It's possible there might be something there....

I personally know your frustration,.... i also have an elusive in my partners family (also a GG Grandparent) she was a bit of a dodgy lass, and from Lancashire... no idea where she went too, and i've also bought loads of certs :-/

Where did divorce come into it?

Ian

Ian Report 5 Dec 2012 20:44

Yes alviegal - I have all the children born and died.
The only 2 surviving were my G Grandmother Eliza (Craven) and her Sister Emma (Cregg).

Ian

Ian Report 5 Dec 2012 20:40

No divorce - in 1911 they were 68/64 and been married 45 years, so I don't think that is relevant.

alviegal

alviegal Report 5 Dec 2012 20:37

According to the 1911 census, they only had 2 children still living out of 10.

Hi,

For some years I have been trying to establish the deaths of my GG Grandparents - Samuel & Ann Hudson.

Samuel was born Lichfield, Staffs 1842.
Ann (Gray) was born 1850 Hertford, Herts. They married 1865 in Kirkheaton, Huddersfield (Ann, aged 15 lied about her age).

They moved around as Samuel was a Railway Labourer/Navvy :

1871 - Blackburn, Lancs
1881 - Habergham Eaves, Burnley, Lancs
1891 - Horwich, Lancs
1901 - Burnley, Lancs
1911 - Bolton, Lancs

I have purchased a number of Death Certificates but none match my GG Grandparents.

Ann HUDSON 1912 DEATH 65 Salford, Manchester
Ann HUDSON 1920 DEATH 71 Padiham, Lancs
Ann HUDSON 1920 DEATH 72 Bury, Lancs
Ann HUDSON 1922 DEATH 73 Blackburn, Lancs
Ann HUDSON 1926 DEATH 76 Stockport, Lancs
Ann HUDSON 1927 DEATH 81 Burnley, Lancs

Samuel HUDSON 1928 DEATH 73 Burnley, Lancs
Samuel HUDSON 1931 DEATH 82 Manchester North

As this is proving to be a little expensive has anybody an idea of how I can move forward to find their deaths without having to purchase dozens of Certificates?

:-(
