John Lyon, Liverpool

Richard Report 7 Dec 2012 13:37

My grandmother, Madge Rowland lived in 18 Derwent Road, Liverpool with John Lyon. Madge gave birth to my mother Danella Rowland in 1929 when she lived in Goth Street, Liverpool. By the time of her second child, Michael, (1931) she had given him the name of Lyon, as she did with her subsequent children: Robin, Rosemary and Brenda.

Madge and John lived in Derwent Road from 1945, until 1947 when Madge moved into 16 to join with Richard Corlett, my grandfather. John continued to live in 18 until around 1950. I have Madge and Richard Corlett living as man and wife: 1948 is the last time that Madge Rowland is listed, thereafter, from 1949, she is listed as Madge Corlett.

I can find no marriage or divorce certifcates for these two.

I believe John Lyon died in 1960 and that he was a ships engineer, but little else. I would love to discover more of my grandfather on this side of the family.

PM received ......

Hi Mike,
yes, Danella was John's daughter. As she told me on our only meeting, the family all share the same 'Lyon nose!'

PM received:

"Hi Margee, yes, many thanks for this. I actually paid a geneologist this year and he couldn't find any record of the marriage between Corlett and Rowland. So, your expertise is greatly appreciated. Richard"

Actually Reggie had found this marriage before I did which makes you wonder why, if 2 people here found the marriage easily, why didn't a paid genealogist?

My advice has always been "Never pay a so-called professional genealogist. The unpaid helpers here are so much better!"

Yes, I think I agree! Mind you, the information provided on the Rowland side gave me some wonderful contacts! Richard
