This family seem to travel around a lot. William(father) is a master mariner on the censuses, which fits with the marriage occupations

Thank you for the death/probate of the husband.
Gins
That's a shame!
I don't know what part of Cornwall William died.Might just be a coincidence that he retired there.
I know he lived in Plymouth for a time.

Gins

Gins Report 9 Dec 2012 14:54

I think that family are still in Cornwall in 1861, so may be a red herring :-(

That's interesting.. William ,the 1859 one, moved to Devon and then he died in Cornwall. So there was a connection there.

The stepson William must have been given the wrong name on the 1881 census and really be William Johns.
I had not been able to find him,but knew he had to be somewhere as he married in 1882.
Thank you
Jan

Gins and Choccy
That is brillliant. So William must have died after the son Charles was born.
That explains why I couldn't see them anywhere.
I had always wondered why the son William 1859 was in London when he married, but this is probably why.
Thank you so much for your help
