If you would like help you need to give some first names and years of birth...I would imagine there is more than one Meade family in the London area

Infact there is 220 people with the surname Meade on the 1911 census living in London

Have you also tried looking to see if anyone else has this family in their tree?

Not sure what info you are after if you have got back to the 1790s?

There is not much point giving you the census's if you already have them, what are you actually stuck on?

I have most info from census but the last George (1821) in the birth register of St James, Mary-le-bone I have George 1790?? with wife Mary Ann as mother & father, I also have another son James 1827 by the same parents and church but can find no info on the parents before that so do not know if they originated in the area or not so am stuck. The George Meade (1790`s) age is just a guess on the age of his son as somewhere to start which is where I am still looking, have also been unable to find his death or ref in the census`s so am going round in circles.. like your branch mine did not go to far from London including myself until we imigrated to Australia in 2000

Thanks for this information most I had already, the one I am stuck on Is George Meade snr (abt 1790) as on the baptism certs of his children the first one born in 1820 so I have an approx. age for him as they were pretty quick to have first child, I cannot find him on any census and not certain when he died. His son George William (1820) also married twice last one in 1852 to a Louisa Edinburgh where he is listed as a widower, I cannot trace his first marriage.

Maybe this is his baptism?

Hi Reggie 2nd marriage was 9th May 1859 and is the correct one,stated on it is George as a widower so first marriage as he was born in 1821 given an average marriage age of 20 yrs old would have been around 1842 to before 1859, also on this wedding cert is his fathers named as a cabinet maker so he was probably alive around this time which is my other mystery, thanks for the research you have done what ever the result, something will `click` one day. Another `helper` has come up with a Gorge Meade for my 1790 Meade which I am chasing up. Cheers john

the marriage certificate is not proof that the father was alive at the time of the marriage!


It all depends on how the vicar asked the question(s) ...................

What is your father's name?

What is his occupation?


OR

What is your father's name and is he still alive?

What was his occupation?



The second set demands one of two answers .................. "still alive" or "deceased"


The first option is not always answered with "deceased"




so never take the absence of "deceased" as proof that the father is still alive.

so George was a naughty boy!!


He and Louisa apparently lived common-law and had children before they married.


His first marriage therefore pre-dated at least the birth of Frederick in 1849 ................ I haven't found a baptism for George born ca 1846.


That is, unless his first wife was also called Louisa :-)

Maybe you need to get the birth cert for George William Meade 1847 to see who it names as his mother
