Hi Reggie,Yes, I have started a 14 day free trial with find my past but so far have not had any luck. Thomas James Wynne married Lily Lathan on the 15/11/1886 so would have been born about 1859-1860. We think he was born Thomas James Wharton and for some reason changed his name to Wynne although why we don't know. On his marriage certificate his father's name is James Wynne who is a labourer. On various census, some say that Lily is Wynne wife and also the children are Wynne son or daughter. It's all very strange. Kind Regards, Barbara

When you post a question, you create a thread.

Site guidelines state.............. 'one thread per topic'

Have you followed up on the advice posted about where to look?

And please re-think the time-scale........

Have you looked for/found his wife's death?

Shall I delete this one then Stuart. I am not very familiar with threads lol. Just know how to ask a question and add a reply. Kind Regards, Barbara

It would have been better to have stuck to the original thread and asked there for this help, (having first unmarked the thread as answered)

Thanks, Stuart.........

From the other thread...............which is 'marked as answered'

Hi can anyone do me a death lookup please for Thomas James Wynne. He married Lily Lathan on the 15/Nov/1886. He was born about 1859 and was in the 13th Hussars. He was married in Colchester and the certificate says he was in barracks at the time of the marriage and aged 27. I also know he was in Scotland while in the 13th Hussars but I can find no record of his death. Many thanks, Barbara

When and where was the man born?

If you hope that someone will look for info, your need to give all the details

Although anyone who served in 1870 would not still be serving in 1920..........

Ancestry has WW1 records...........but don't forget that at least 70% were destroyed during WW2

For earlier records you need the National Archives site

FMP has overseas births of British citizens

Thankyou everyone for all your help it was very useful. George, The timescale I am looking for is 1870-1920. The Person I am looking for is Thomas James Wharton (alias Wynne which is probably what any army records name will be in). He was in the 13th Hussars. Kind Regards, Barbara

you could also try www.forces-war-records.co.uk you can search the site freely but if you want any specific details, you have to join and pay.

Familysearch.org you could try this site for your overseas birth.

George_of_Westbury Report 15 Dec 2012 19:33

Depends on the timescale and the sort of records you are wanting.

If you state what is the timescale you are looking for, you can be advised further.

There are military records on GR/Find my Past, but there are others. but not free if that is what you are wanting.

Military deaths for both World wars can be found on this site http://www.cwgc.org/ this one is free
