i seem to have hit a brick wall, and wondered if anyone has any ideas. i have john lock 1786 on the 1841 census, living in wiston, with some of his children including a son george 1816 who is from my line of locks. however there seems to be an awful lot of john locks in suffolk at that time, some trees suggest he has a father john lock c1760 and a brother james c1781 but there are several different names of wives, --though the general consensus is john 1786 married a "mary" and john 1760 married a "sarah"-- both ladies seem to have about 4 different surnames.. there are john locks marrying various sarahs and marys in the parish records on this site and the latter day saints site, but how can i find out which johns, mary and sarah are the ones i am looking for? i am still fairly new to this so may have missed something completely obvious.. any help would be very much appreciated :-) |

hi maddie, yes that is charles :-) and also john his father, but the marriage i am not sure about as there is also a mary stanard and a mary deaves who could be her... and sarah could be jeffrys, mann or aggis, depending which site you look at, so you see i am stumped haha we were awkward even back then :-) anncardiff: charles is the last definate i have, with a father john on the christening details, and he would seem to be the same john as detailed on the above census's. thanks so much for the replies by the way :-) |

chris: well i looked up mary eady, in some transcripts she is mary cady, (same dates, places etc so am fairly sure is the same lady) but she does seem the most likely of all the marys to be my gt x? grandmother, wife of the younger john, going on the timings and places, so thankyou very much for that - i hadnt even seen her before!! |

thanks chris, i had looked at mary deaves but thought the wedding date seemed very late considering charles was born 1816/17, but if his first wife was mary cady/eady and mary cady had died, i wonder if he had married another mary (deaves) later on.. hmmm.. john is turning out to be quite the enigma - i have been stuck on him ever since i started doing this tree back in august.. too many john locks in one place haha! |
