good afternoon
i wonder if anyone can help i,m trying without succes too find a marriage for george bowman to a kathleen ?????
i know they had a daughter margaret in may 1934 not sure where she was born though (this is the month & year given on the death regerstration on ancestry ) margaret bowman later married a john wilson in leeds west yorkshire in 1956 states on marriage cert her father was george bowman i know margaret wilson (nee bowman ) died in 1975 i went to the leeds libarary & looks at the obituerys & found it & it said daughter of george & the late kathleen bowman & states she was also a loving sister & thats all it says
thank you in advance for any time help & advice given :-)

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 14:12

Look for the daughter's birth on freebmd as a first step............

Have you tried to find a marriage for the parents?

Margaret's birthplace should be recorded on her death cert

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 14:16

yes i have looked for birth on freebmd & ancesrty but there are 4 too choose from & noted all 4 mmn down & lloked for a george bowman marrying either of the mmn but can,t find one

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 14:18

Kathleen is, of course, originally an Irish name........perhaps the marriage ( and Margaret's birth) were in Ireland..........

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 14:20

Who witnessed Margaret's marriage to Wilson?

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 14:26

the witnesses were raymond smith & june r smith (nee wilson) june was john wilson,s sister i was hopeing it would have been one of margarets siblings

Potty Report 17 Dec 2012 14:46

Who was the informanton the death cert?

Margaret's birth reg should be in the 2nd qtr of 1934 but there is only one Margaret Bowman coming up freebmd and that is in the 1st quarter.

Bear in mind that her mother could have been married before so her name in the marriage to George and her name in the birth index would be different (ie her first married name would be in the marriage index and her MN in the birth index.

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 14:53

thanks potty
i have not got the death cert i just went & looked up the obit too see what it said & it wasn,t giving a lot away
you could be right about her been married before
will have a nother closer look
thanks :-)

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 15:01

Margaret may not, as I intimated earlier, have been born in England/Wales.

She could also have been born before her mother married

Have you tried to find a death for Kathleen?

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 15:06

England & Wales, Death Index, 1916-2006

Name: Kathleen Bowman
Birth Date: abt 1913
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1962
Age at Death: 49
Registration district: Leeds
Inferred County: Yorkshire West Riding
Volume: 2c
Page: 332

Unfortunately, the death is too early for the maiden name and birthplace to be recorded on the death cert........

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 15:06

hi reggie
yes i agree she could have been born out of wedlock have just been looking into that also a good point about her not been born in england
thaks for your time & infomation

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 15:08

thank you so much for that it looks like a very good match too me may have too go back & look at the obits again at the leeds libarary

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 15:08

Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1975

Jacky Report 17 Dec 2012 15:15

Thomas could be 1966 Dewsbury . try FreeBMD for his birth record

Potty Report 17 Dec 2012 16:06

This may be completely off the wall, but the only marriage for a George Bowman to a Kathleen 1920-1940 is this one:

Marriages Dec 1937 (>99%)

Bowman George W D Stone Willesden 3a 939
Stone Kathleen B Bowman Willesden 3a 939

and there is this birth:

Births Sep 1935
Stone Margaret J Stone Islington ? See J'48 - birth registered late

Stone Margaret J Stone Islington 5c 1554

Possible births for the above marriage:

Births Jun 1938 (>99%)
Bowman Paul Stone Marylebone 1a 735

Births Mar 1940 (>99%)
Bowman Kathleen Stone Coventry 6d 1501

Reggie Report 17 Dec 2012 16:50

I think you'd be wise to invest in Margaret's death find out her birthplace

There is no suggestion of a second forename in her death registration

Jacky Report 18 Dec 2012 09:24

firstly i must say sorry for vanishing so quickly yesterday but my little grandson arrived unexspected & him & my pc don,t mix he wants to press all the buttons lol
rite back to the thread

i have margarets marriage cert with george,s name on it & he has no middle names & reggie found what we think is a good match for the death of her mother kathleen i,m going to check that out later to comfim its the right one as the records are free too look at in the leeds libaray and she also did,t have any middle names on the death reg that reggie found so don,t think that is them but i,m working so far on the point that reggie pointed out that she may not have been born in england its so frustrating but thank you so much for your time potty

yes the death cert is the next step i think but will that give her place of birth & her mothers maiden name ????

many many thanks everyone for your time .advice & help & infomation

jacky :-)

Reggie Report 18 Dec 2012 09:29

English death certs do not contain parental details

But, as I stated, her birthplace will be recorded, and you have to hope that the person who registered the death had accurate info.

Jacky Report 18 Dec 2012 09:55

thanks reggie
am going to order the cert today so fingers crossed & hopefully i.ll be back with a little more infomation once it arrives
once again thanks so much for your help & advice :-)
