I'm trying to find out when William and Catherine Lowe emigrated to Canada. Catherine was born in 1886 in Coatbridge Lanarkshire Scotland.
She married William Lowe in 1908 in Shetleston Glasgow.
I don't have access to passenger lists but there is a possiblity they travelled in 1911 (the evidence of this in on her 1964 death certificate from Vancouver which states she lived in the country for 43 years.
I would be interested to find out about her emigration and who she was going to stay with in Canada. Also she was a Canadian citizen, is there someone who can check these records for me please.
I would be very grateful for any help with Catherine as I have been trying to trace the family for some time now

If she'd lived there 43 years in 1964 then that would have been around 1921 that they moved?

Isobel - what was Catherine's maiden name?
Can you tell us more about william - birth details, occupation, etc. ?
There are quite a few Catherine Lowe's so it will help make sure we trace the right one.

Hi Marie Celeste
Sorry I can't count 43 from 64 = 11 doh. My arithmetic is terrible. 1921 fits perfectly.
You found her she was born in Drumpark which is in Lanarkshire Scotland, not far from where I live and her father was John Innes (I posted ages ago about him on GR) He emigrated in 1926 at the age of 64 with some of his children to Drumheller Alberta. I have Catherine's BC and there was no middle name but I have a copy of her DC sent to me today from Canada and she has the middle name Agnes. Lethbridge is where they settled.
I know she had at least one son he signed the death certificate but I can't make out his initials. She was living at East Georgia Street Vancouver when she died. She had lived in that :Province for 20 years, so it's possible she may have been in Alberta before that. Again is there any way to check that out?
I'm sooooo grateful for all your help with this post, thank you all very much for your hard work
She was Scottish as was her father and mother alhtough the family are originally Irish (her brother in Canada had such strong feelings towards his Irish heritage that he changed his name from Innes the Scottish spelling to Ennis the Irish spelling. He died in Vancouver in 1987 under the name Daniel Anthony ENNIS
I don't have details on her husband yet, just found out about him yesterday, will need to check Scotlandspeople for the 1908 marriage certificate. :-)

Wonder if this is William arriving in Canada ahead of Catherine?
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 Name: William Lowe Gender: Male Age: 34 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1886 Date of Arrival: 6 Aug 1920 Vessel: Pretorian Port of Arrival: Quebec Port of Departure: Glasgow, Scotland Roll: T-14707
He was a miner, heading to Lethbridge to his sister Mrs McLuckie at 19th Street. He was accompanied by his mother Mrs Annie Lowe, a housekeeper age 61.
(The transcript of the outgoing record gives his birth year as 1889 but I can't view the original image).

Not seeing any shipping records that match John Innes for 1926 .......
EDIT: Have found a record for Daniel Innes in 1926, age 20, travelling with a father John who is age 49??
This is the arrival:
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 Name: John Innes Gender: Male Age: 49 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1877 ?? Birth Country: Scotland Date of Arrival: 25 Sep 1926 Vessel: Montclare Port of Arrival: Montreal, Quebec Port of Departure: Greenock, Scotland Roll: T-14727
He was travelling with Margaret (28), Susan (24), Daniel (20) and Robert (3). He was going to his nephew Hugh Conroy in Drumheller. Contact in Scotland was son Wm Innes at 8 Rhinsdale Tce, Baillieston.
Definitely your John as have found outgoing record and address had been 48 Buchanan Street, Baillieston.
I might be mistaken (one of our Canadian experts may clarify) but it may have been perceived that there was an upper age limit for entry into Canada so John fibbed a bit! His age on Scottish census records ties in with what you state.

Hi MarieCeleste
Thank you so much for all this wonderful information. I am very grateful to you for all your hard work. Yes that is my William travelling with his mother to Canada. Also my John arriving in 1926. John did fib about his age he was actually 64 (a big fib I would say).
Once John arrives in Drumheller, Alberta I lose track of him. Although Daniel dies in Vancouver after a name change to the Irish spelling of Innes which is ENNIS
Another wee fib Robert wasn't his son, no birth record in Scotland, I think he was the son of one of the others that travelled in 1926.
I will send you my email address by PM.
Thanks again :-)

For the Dominion Survey coords of Lethbridge PO, do lookup at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/post-offices/001001-100.01-e.php Lethbridge Sec. 31, Twp. 8, R. 21, W4M
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/western-land-grants/001007-100.01-e.php but I didn't see any likely McLuckies - but Mrs M has a city addy, not a farm addy. I didn't see any likely Lowes in W4 - but it's getting a bit late for him homesteading. [The 4th meridian was the AB-SK border, and the 5th ran thru downtown Calgary.]
I don't see any McLuckie in Lethbridge didtrict in 1916 - Lethbrige was in Medicine Hat in 1911: 1911 census Provinces/Districts Alberta 4. Medicine Hat Sub-District Number: Sub-District Description: 11 Townships 7, 8 in ranges 19, 20, 21 west of the 4th M Lethbridge City consists of the following: Subdistrict 69 and 74 to 78 inclusive [1921 won't be released until 2014] http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html
You can look up Pretorian 1920 at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php You want image 14 of 20, but, typically, Ancestry has better resolution images than LAC for shipping lists.
