Kucinta, I know how the censuses work for research & some other sites but how did you research the groom's & bride's fathers names? That's useful info .At the moment I'm working on several of Ultimus's eleven children. I have a few definites but then for Winifred Jackson born 1881, Joseph Herbert b 1882 & Walter Ernest b 1883 I have 3 options for each & not sure how to find the exact spouse. Any help appreciated. Thank you

Isle of Man (and anywhere else) on LDS

The microfilms, etc. of the London Family History Centre, Kensington are presently stored/available at the National Archives, Kew.

This is the LFHC site:- http://www.londonfhc.org/

Open that and put isle of man into the search box. It will bring up what they have "in stock". There are other LDS centres who probably do not have as much available, but if what you want exists in Salt Lake City, it can be ordered in for a nominal fee.

Search for the film number that Mel mentions above, and you will see that it is "in stock" at Kew. A copy of that page of the marriage register should also give you the witness names, and everyones actual signatures - unless they 'made their mark'.

GR do not specify which parish records are available. ie the extent of their coverage. (If that statement is wrong, sombody please correct me).

Presently I also have a subscription to the GR sister site FindMyPast. I expect that the sites have the same parish records. Last month FMP announced the addition of parish records for Doncaster. And included this note:-

"The Doncaster Family History Society provided findmypast.co.uk with these records."

If this is how they are enlarging their database, they will never get anywhere near full coverage.

Like Astra, I suggest the LDS site. (When looking for pre-1837 records, I generally go there first.)

Thank you MarieCeleste & also Cynthia - I've printed out your tip so I'll know next time (hopefully!) Most of my ancestors are from the Isle of Man so I research them when home on the island but one family, the Jacksons are from England. I was trying various members in the parish records but none came up. Charles c 1790 -1876. his wife Harriet 1806 - 1851 both Staffordshire. Then they had at least 9 children together one of which Catherine was my great grandmother. I tried Ultimus as that was a more unusual name born 1850 , Kenilworth, Polesworth, Measham areas. These tries were mainly to see what the Parish records could reveal as I already have some info on these Jacksons. How far back and forward do the Parish registers go on Genes reunited. Thank you for any help or info.

Hello Kathleen and welcome to the boards.

It's possible that the person you're looking for isn't included in the records available on Genes.

Why not give us an example of someone you're looking for, we'll have a go and then give you some tips.

Hi, have only just subscribed to genesr reunited & have paid extra for the Parish records. No idea how to find them as every time I submit a name it says 'No results found. I've tried different names & years but no luck. Please tell me how to search properly.
