Looks like 10 Cottrell Road, but writing isn't too clever. |

Don't suppose it says the address that alfred, jas, florence etc lived at in 1901? |

Fantastic. All fits perfectly as Alfred's dad John James was from bedminster in bristol. Florence was born in 1862 and between her being born and Alfred being born they moved to Roath in cardiff. Is Jas short for James? Thanks for your help. I'm off now to race the Bristol side further. Have reached Joseph James born 1799 who is Alfred's grandfather but reached a dead end past that. Thanks again. |

Hi yes that's him. He married late and his wife Edith was married previously. It's weird that he lived in Roath all his life, disappeared then reappeared. Someone suggested he went to war?? |

Is he just missing from the family home or can't you find any of the family? |

Great thanks. Another mystery on my list to sort out is why my great grandad was missing from the 1901 census. Alfred John James 1872-1930 Born cardiff. Have found him on every other census as a house painter living in the roath area of cardiff including the 1911 census but nothing in 1901. Any ideas? |

Right, first query. You can purchase birth, marriage and death certs online from the GRO (General Register Office) - they cost £9.25 and usually take around a week to arrive, but it may be longer. |

Jan - yes that's the brothers. Their mothers maiden name was Williams. I have a photo of frank when he went off to war, do you know of any sites where you can get military details based on uniform etc? |
