Thank you all for your assistance, after spending the last 2 days stuck on the internet, I think I have a solution.
Yes I believe I have traced where John Alexander Marcus is a nephew to Jane Cummins.

You can find WW1 records on the site mappingouranzacs.naa.gov.au and
you can also request a copy of their service record.

Hello Kathleen, were the Cummins in Australia?

On the death record in 1935 for Elizabeth J R Marcus it gives her parents as Alice & Thomas.

Thanks one and all. There seems to be a family friendship with a Smith family, Christina and Isabella Smith living near or with the Cummins family around 1889.

This looks like the marriage of the parents, think she was a Smith (had hoped it said Cummins!)

Dear Gwynn of Kent,
Thank you for your quick response.
I had not thought of checking Australian war records.
I was busy going through a suitcase of old photos from my mothers' family and came across this gentlemans' photo. I will do some further research here now that I know some details. Much appreciated, I will update you when I know more.
Happy New year and thank you kindly.

I have a postcard picture of this gentleman.
It states 21 Batt 6th Inf. Brade. Australian Imperial Force.
I believe the photo would be from WW1 possibly. I am interested in the Cummins family connection if any.
If anyone is interested in same please make contact.
