Thanks for the reply, problem with Jabez being Charles-his father was a school master and not an instrument maker. On Charles marriage certt. the father is down as Charles Vallance musical instrument maker.

Jean, if you cant find a birth or Charles with his parents on the censuses, how do you know his fathers name and occupation?

If you missed it Gins, I missed it too!

Plus the evidence for his occupation also being musical instrument maker...

If I'd known it was also Charles, would have saved me going down the 'wrong' line. :-(
