Everything leads to Blades being her birth parents. My uncle said she was adopted but now says he thinks my nan may have told him.
Thankyou for all the help, think i'm going to carry on with the Blades being her real family unless im told otherwise. Unfortunately my nan passed away so unable to ask about it.
Thankyou for the speedy responses.

Who told you that she was adopted?
Were they confusing her with someone else?
It is easy to mix up relatives.

Well, I'd say that as her birth was registered as Blades then that is her real name.

On that 1911 census it says that Mary Ann had given birth to 4 children and one had died (it was a girl called Dorothy as they'd put her name on the original return in error).

So everything points to them being her biological parents. Do you know when they died? Maybe she lived with someone else later on?

That is the right information. But i was recently told she was adopted, so i'm unsure as to whether Mary Ann and Frank are her adopted parents or her birth parents. I am hoping that these are her birth parents as it makes everything easier.

Does this fit with what you know of her marriage?

Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1926
Blades Florence E Trowell Stamford 7a 955
Trowell Joseph A Blades Stamford 7a 955

If it is, then I'd suggest sending for a copy of her marriage certificate to see what it gives for father's details.

Get copies of certs direct from GRO, they cost £9.25

If it's Stamford, Lincs then this must be her birth:

Hello Awie, welcome to the boards.

Where is Stamford?

There was no formal adoption before 1927. Before that there were informal arrangements (sometimes legally documented but there would be no register).

Hi, would anyone be able to help.
I am researching my family tree and found out that apparently my Great Grandmother Florence Elizabeth Blades was adopted. I am now unsure as to whether Blades is her Maiden name or adopted name and also whether her listed parents are her adopted parents or birth parents.
She was born in 1905 in Stamford (i think) she died in 1995.
I'm looking for information on her birth mother, and maiden name.
I'ts a longshot but was wondering if anyone on here may also be related and have this information.
