Hi Thomas Andrew vernon married Amy Elizabeth hill in Birmingham (1901) and had a son Sidney Thomas vernon b 1909. After the 1911 census they seem to disappear but ancestry show a Canadian connection? In the 1916 census. Is there someone who is able to check if this is the correct family before I subscribe to worldwide ancestry? Many thanks for your help. Bye Jayne :-D

[AG's] 1911 Census of Canada Home / 1911 / Quebec / Richmond-Wolfe / 29 Asbestos / page 9 3 87 Vernon Pharnal M Head M Oct 1876 35 4 87 Vernon Anny F Wife M Aug 1872 39 5 87 Vernon Sidney M Son S Jun 1908 3
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/pdf/e002083859.pdf [The enumerator's writing is hard to make out - I think his addy is Rue Jeffrey - it does meet Rue du Roi. Occup looks like Mercier i.e., haberdasher, but he is employed by the mine? - no prizes for guessing what they mined in Asbestos.] Nominal date of 1911 census was 1/6/1911, but he was enumerated on 16/6/1911. Asbestos is 140km E of Montreal & 80km SE of Trois Rivieres.
For 1916, look up District = Weyburn Sub-District # = 10 at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1916/index-e.html You want Division B, page 25 of 27. [There's a "C" in col 4, i.e., Thos is not at home, but on active service somewhere in Canada. Most everyone else is on Weyburn Rd, but Thos is at Camp Hughes just E of Brandon MB - one of the main CEF training camps.]
As you'll see from a look up of his attestation papers on Margee's CEF URL, Thos was b 21/10/1876 Also, the Search help link tells you how you can purchase his service record, and has links to the unit war diaries of the 5th bn (part of the 2nd brigade of the 1st division).
For part of DetEcTive's 10:46 hits: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/microform-digitization/006003-110.01-e.php You want: Title: Veterans Death Cards: First World War Microform: turner_m Page 1038 of 1310 [Chilliwack is in the Fraser Valley, 100km E of Vancouver]
