I has been a long time since I have been on the boards (2 years plus) and I have tried to find my previous posts with no luck so I apologise if anyone remembers them.
I am still searching for information on my Great grandmother Minnie Nelson
I know she was born in Shanghai in 1873
Her father was called Andrew Nelson (I got this from her marriage certificate in 1896 to Thomas Rogers Evans, Anglesey, where her father is shown as deceased).
She appears in the UK 1891 census' where she is living in a house in Wales, age 17 staying with her Aunt Mary Thomas.
The fact that this lady is listed as her aunt might be a red herring as
1) Mary Thomas is an Aunt of the man Minnie married
2) Mary Thomas has 4 nieces (all who lived in Shanghai prior to this) and 1 nephew staying with her (who I know to be actual nieces and nephews) so it could be a mistake on the census
Minnie died in 1919, leaving behind 3 children (Richard Ivor (my Gfather), Margaret and Glyn).
Please note I have found Minnie and her married family on all census' I have access to from 1891, I have her marriage details and that of her husband and his family.
My interest lies in her first 17 years.
She was born in Shanghai, 1873 - can I trace any information from here?
Her father Andrew Nelson, according to family was a mariner - I know nothing else
She arrived in the UK sometime between 1881 and 1891.
Can anyone do a basic search on passenger lists please. I do no know if her name was actually Minnie or if this was a nick name although both her marriage and death certificate cite Minnie and no other name.
I did a basic search on ancestry under surname Nelson, birth date 1873, port of departure Shanghai and there were numerous hits for Miss Nelson's and M Nelson's but I cant access them any further as I haven't got a full subscription. I would be very grateful if anyone could check these for me.
She may have been travelling with a Lillie (Lillian) Williams (b1876 Glasgow), Mary Williams (b1878 Shanghai), Mabel Pearson (b1880ish, Shanghai) and Ada Pearson (b1882ish, Middlesex London), the 4 neices listed on the 1891 census in Wales. These 4 girls were the daughters of Annie Pearson who appears to be at The Port of London Hospital with her young son Arthur Pearson who was a patient in the 1891 census. I had wondered if they all came in together and the 5 girls were sent on the Annie William's sister's house in wales (Mary Thomas) because the young boy was taken ill on the voyage?
Just to add complication - many of the family were master mariners - is there a chance the family/Minnie could have sailed on one of their ships and would therefore not be listed?
I would be eternally grateful for any further help as this has been a huge brick wall for me.
Again I want to emphasis post 1891 - I have found a great deal of information on Minnie and the family, it is prior to this census I am trying to find information and don't want people to working on information already gained from previous research,

MarieCeleste - thank you, stupidly I only did a search for Minnie Nelson and it kept coming back with no results, I didn't even see the 'my threads' things, the sight has changed a lot since I last used it!
Thanks Barry, I would heed to check back at the marriage certificate which I have filed - it is the original and it is is single I have remembered the wrong date
