Find Ancestors

The death that Brummiejan found for you (on your other thread) was in Woolwich Reg. district so you could start in that area.
In more recent times there was a Military Hospital in Woolwich. It was built on the site of a former barracks and was a replacement for the Royal Herbert hospital in Shooters Hill and Queen Alexandra's Military Hospital (Millbank). This latter at Millbank, Pimlico, Westminster. Shooters Hill lies just south of Woolwich.

Once you find the hospital you can use the Hospital Records Database to find out what records exist and where they are stored.

LMA====London Metropolitan Archives,,,,they are in Northampton Street EC1.....just boarding with Clerkenwell,,,,,,,they have vast hoards of records and information of where records could be deposited if not housed with them.

He was born on 9th July 1901 in Wortley Leeds. He was born Henry Coulson although was always called Harry. He joined the army in 1919 ( If family stories are true) and I think he may have joined the 15th (The King's) Hussars. His parents were Albert Proctor Coulson and Kate Coulson (nee Roberts) and I have him on the 1911 census still in Wortley with mum dad and siblings. He did not marry. Family stories say that his mother went to London to visit him in hospital and she died in 1921 so that gives me some window of time. I do not know when he died but have found a death in Woolwich in 1923 so have sent of for that death certificate and will wait to see if it is the correct one.

There were over 30 such places taken over in WW1 for use of a hospital in London and some in Middlesex.....If the man died in hospital then his death certificate maybe the way to go for a place name.

LMA may house records.?.

The death cert will name the hospital if he died there

His details would be of help - name, age, where born, parents, wife, family etc ???

I have been told that my great uncle was sent to the "War" hospital in London sometime around 1919 -1921 because he had contracted a disease after being posted to India with the army. I believe he died in hospital. As there is no "war" hospital, can anyone suggest where it might have been and what it was called. I am hoping to find out if there are any surviving records of his time there.
