I have also looked at the 1871 census on the original image his birthplace looks like "fountain"

Just a thought, could it be Caunton which as you probably know is near Newark on Trent

Hi George,

Good to hear from you. Yes it could be Caunton and he could have been born there
all I know is that John was christened in Farndon 8 miles for Caunton but during 1841-1861 his father moved around a fair bit due to work as he was a labourer 1841 he was in Claypole 1851 in Newark and then Balderton . John was christened 28 Jan 1844 but haven't found a birth to match as yet.

Cannot find any christenings in Caunton maybe he was born there but christened in Farndon.
