wondered if any one can help please,
my partners mum jean broadbent born 1929 bolton,her father was called joseph broadbent born oldham 1891 and wife called maud murphy 1891 bolton,
her grand father was called franklin broadbent born oldham 1860 died 1916 and married to hannah hough born oldham 1858.
her great grand father was called joseph broadbent about 1822 saddleworth and married jane collinge born oldham about 1822
her great great grand father was ralph broadbent born saddleworth 1793 he was a principal and proprietor of castle shaw boarding school,
we think his children was joseph,ralph and sophie but not sure about dates.family think ralph junior went to live in australia then america but dont know,they think he might have been a teacher like his father ralph senior the info is what my partners mother as told us the ralph born in 1793 we dont know who he married can any one help please

If you check the Free BMD site there are a number of Births for Broadbent Oldham from 1837 and the only Sophia listed has mothers maiden name as Platt...as do many of the others...hope that helps ...

Could Ralph jnr be Ralph Higginbotham BROADBENT? (GIven that eldest son Joseph had a surname-y middle name too!)

Death for him in Surry Hills, NSW, Australia in 1883, aged 59 (reg 157), so fits agewise.

Possible arrival of Ralph in Port Philip in 1849 aboard 'The Lord Hungerford' from London.

There is info online that suggests Ralph's parents were John & Martha (nee HIGGINBOTHAM) so if you are skeptical of this, you would need to get his NSW marriage certificate to be certain it is 'your' Ralph (even then it may not provide father's name). Death cert does not seem to offer that info.

NSW allows transcription agents, can be cheaper way to go if you only need particular fields. Be careful as some offer more than others in term of pieces of info.

If this is the right couple, there were lots of other siblings, all christened in Friarmere (a parish of Saddleworth and also the place Ralph snr appears to have been christened!); this list includes the eldest 2 you have mentioned. Notice some matching given names to Ralph jnr's chn (Franklin, Selima/Selina and Lewis):

there is a Sophia Broadbent father Ralph in Oldham who married in 1846 but her father Ralph was a farmer - mother Betty Lees Platt (from another record)
