Find Ancestors

This ancestor of mine was born in 1883 in Congleton district, Cheshire.

I have found him successfully in the 1891 and 1901 censuses. No sign of him in 1911 and we don't think he married.

On the family grave kerbs, he appears to have been known by his middle name of 'Hervey' which is a family name. It states his dod as October 1918.

In his mother's obituary, it writes of "her son Hervey died at camp during the War."

I cannot find any mention of his death under either his full name or other, nor can I find any military records for him.

Please, are there any sleuths out there this evening? I hope so.

Just for the record and for clarity, this chap is NOT part of an earlier thread with the title of 'Deaths in Philadelphia'. Wouldn't want to muddle anyone.

The 'DiP' thread concerned his parents who emigrated to Philadelphia with their two daughters and I have all those records, thank you.

But GHBW, or 'Hervey', is nowhere to be found on the US census records with his family and so I have presumed that he remained in the UK probably in the Army?? And then subsequently entered WWI where he met his end . . .

Is it possible he emigrated to the USA and subsequently joined the Canadian Expeditionary force?

There is a death on the CWGC site for October 1918 also there are Canadian service records, although these give his name as George Harvey Walker born 12 August 1883 Cheshire Occupation Salesman

He has a wife as NOK Grace G Walker.

I realise this might not be him but thought best to see it than not.

OMG, that is him! You are both fantastic detectives.

Date of birth exactly correct.

We never knew that he married.

Guess that he did in fact emigrate with his parents but perhaps immediately entered the CE force since Canada was part of the Commonwealth at that time.

If I get more information about him, I'll post on here just for "tidiness". But in the meantime, I'll just say thank you once again - I was completely stuck and couldn't get my thinking to work outside the box. Drrrrrrrrrr . . .

Yes he was travelling alone and the Maifest show he was ? going to MontClaire..(New Jersey) but that is uner "Place of Origen" then Congleton where born no other details eg NOK etc.

So that's why it says in his poor mother's obituary that he "died at Camp." I thought that was odd because it didn't say "died of wounds" or other. How sad to die of the 'flu.
