Hi, could someone point me in the right direction on where to find birth, marriages and deaths for people who lived on the island of Guernsey. I have a marriage for a couple in 1936 and wanted to find out if they had any children and when they died etc... Where do I start?

any help appreciated.

Unfortunately i can only do Jersey. As suggested the Priaulx Library or the Guernsey Family History Society would be the places to try although I don't know if they'd be prepared to take on anything that recent.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,

I have found William Charles Wray b 26/10/1907 to parents William Henry Wray b 1887 in Lancashire and Hannah Lawrence (anna) b 1888 possibly France, but living in Guernsey 1901 and 1911. This is the family I am looking for info on.

What makes you think Hannah might have been born in France? The 1891, 1901 and 1911 all give her birthplace as The Vale, Guernsey.

The Guernsey Family History Society only ask for donations to do look ups and if they are prepared to take it on it should be relatively simple.

My mum told me she was French, but maybe she just spoke French. My mum seems to remember quite a lot and her 93 yr old cousin remembers when she was young actually lived with them in Guernsey. I think I will follow it up.

Thanks for the info

For the 19th and early 20th century French was the first language for most Channel Islander, or she may have spoken the island patois, in Jersey it's jerriais which is similar to French The islands are a lot closer to France than they are to England.
