Hi Irene,

I found them on FMP as Reggie mentioned earlier.

I've just googled and the site below says it provides access to them free, but I haven't verified that claim. Might be worth looking into?

Hi Kucinta,

Can you please tell me where to find the GRO Regimental Birth Indices (1761 to 1924) as I have other military families I would like to do further research on.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kucinta.

Thank you soooooooooooo very much. I see both Fanny and Johns names there as well as Harriet E which I had. A bonus to have other names which I had no idea about. Looks like if he's my Frederick that he has moved around quite a bit with his regiment. I will google the 74th Highlanders and see what I can find. I appreciate all the help. Thank you.

Googling seems to show that the 74th Highlanders were a regiment of foot.

"Would Fredericks military service as well as Malta taken him to Gibraltar."

His service could have taken him to any location in which the British military had a base.....

Military BMD's are on FMP.................

Hi
Thank you that certainly looks like the Fanny who married Henry Wilton so it possibly could be his daughter then with the remarriage to Arthur Stainton.

That could well be her in the 1901 and 1911 census. Thank you. Would Fredericks military service as well as Malta taken him to Gibraltar.

I have Frederick seniors death cert and he died Shatford Road, Sparkhill, Yardley R.D His occupation was an army pensioner of 72 Durham Rd, Sparkhill, Yardley. Informant his daughter Elizabeth Scott residence 8 Wilton Road, Sparkhill so they seemed to be living in that area.
Thanks,
Irene

Irene Report 10 Jan 2013 00:11

Hi

I am looking for some help to find military records to establish the births of our greatgrandfathers sisters family.

Caroline Riley Taylor born 10 Sept 1837 Bilston married Frederick Shepherd (born 14 Oct 1836 Aston) 6 May 1860 Codsall.
Caroline died 28 October 1896 Solihull
Frederick died 8 March 1909 Sparkhill (retired pawnbroker). A army pensioner.

National Probate Calendar for Caroline was granted to George Rowland Scott (husband of daughter Elizabeth Harriet) and John Shepherd (toolmaker). With John I have only just discovered. I have no further info on him at all.

National Probate Calendar for Frederick was granted to Frederick Shepherd a Sergeant Major in His Majesty’s Army and Fanny Stainton widow. These are both new to me. I did not have any info on either a Frederick or a possible Fanny. Could these be his children.

Daughters that I have found Elizabeth Harriet and Emily Shepherd were both born 1871 and 1875 in Malta. Emily is the daughter of Frederick Shepherd Armourer Sergeant 74th Highlander. Unfortunately I did not keep the source so do not know where I found this info.

In my searching on familysearch.org I have found a Frederick William Thomas Henry Taylor marriage 2 Sept 1912 at Wimbledon, Surrey to Elizabeth Esther Bell. Maybe a possible Frederick as Carolines father was Henry Taylor.
Also found a Fanny (Francis) Balance Shepherd marrying in March 1891 at Aston to Henry Wilton. Father Frederic Shepherd. Could this be a daughter as well. Her aunty was Fanny Taylor who married a John Ballance the first prime minister of New Zealand. No info on a Fanny marrying a Stainton. Fanny was born in Gibraltar.

There is also a Lily A Shepherd born Malta 1876 and a Annie L Sheppard born about 1872 Malta.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
Irene
