She may just have been missed from the 1901.

I have tried searching without her surname (in case she was lurking under a different married name for her mother) and also just using her surname (in case her christian name had been mistranscribed) but not found any possibilities.

Thank you and yes I think you are right about waiting for the marriage certificate to come back

amanda louise Report 13 Jan 2013 14:51

It's strange that there is no trace of her in 1901 as she married in 1903, very odd indeed :-S

Don't order the birth certificate until you get Ruth's marriage certificate. There may be a clue on that if she gives a name and occupation for a father.

It would be a pity to waste £9.25 if it is the wrong Ruth. I know it is exciting but you obviously want to build an accurate tree which over time will probably involve buying lots of certificates.

I think it only takes about a week for the certificates to come if you order online quoting the volume and page number.

Good luck

Mrs. Rootie

Oh that is a conundrum, this is getting more and more frustrating

amanda louise Report 13 Jan 2013 14:36

I noticed that too very curious, I think I shall order a copy of her birth certificate, as soon as it comes back I shall let you know what details it holds, it's such a pain that they didn't see fit to list mothers namebefore 1910 or was that 1911 :-(

There are only 2 Ruth Long births in the timescale. One of which has been eliminated as she married some-else.

The other one is the Barton Regis birth.

On the 1911 census Ruth gives her birthplace as Bristol. It is not uncommon for people to give the name of a nearby town or city as there birthplace.

Barton Regis was, from 1894 to 1904, a rural district in the administrative county of Gloucestershire, adjacent to the City of Bristol.

Right now that I have done my maths correctly (I am an idiot) it turns out that anyone of Sarahs siblings could be Ruths parent, I am now wondering if Ruth was infact born out of wedlock and that Sarah took her on as her daughter possibley, I may be totaly off course here

amanda louise

amanda louise Report 13 Jan 2013 14:02

Where does the Barton fit in? I can't find any mention of older siblings for Sarah either

amanda louise Report 13 Jan 2013 13:57

Hmmm.......very interesting I wonder which is her mother, I'm just going to have to wait for the marriage records and hope the answer may be there

PricklyHolly Report 13 Jan 2013 13:54

According to the 1891.........Ruth is the Neice of Sarah Ann Long............so Sarah being the Sister of Ruth's Mother or Father.

As Ruth's surname is Long......i would assume Brother........but she may have been the illigitimate Daughter of one of Sarah's Sisters.

amanda louise Report 13 Jan 2013 13:43

So if I am reading right Sarah Ann Long was possibley Ruths mother or sister?
