Hi, thanks for reply. I did post on Victorian Wars forum, when I saw someone else was enquiring, but didnt have all the correct information. It turned out to be the son of a cousin who I didn't know. Unfortunately he didnt have any extra information. I have looked at James Sanson miiitary record, and that is where his date of death, place and ship, HMS O rion comes from.It didnt say he was killed on board. I wonder if there would be more detail in the ships log, as to his manner of death and where he would have been buried.

I was wondering how I can find out more information on the death of my g-grandfather James Sansom. He was serving aboard H.M.S Orion and he was killed by persons unknown. His record has D.D. on it which I have been told means discharged dead. His family ended up in the workhouse. Would there be more information on his death anywhere? Grateful for any help.
Is there anywhere to view the ships log?
