William Tancock born WICKLOW 1780's

Does anybody have any information about Tancock's going to Ireland in the 18th century?

William Tancock discharged from royal Artillery in 1818
States he was born Wicklow Town circ 1783 on his discharge papers
Spotted him in Liverpool as a cotton worker
He married Elizabeth Lawrence in Drypool (Hull) using the name William Hancock or an error in writing his name
He and Elzabeth record several miltary births in Drypool, Charlton and Newcastle upon Tyne.
Cannot find source for Wicklow town parish births
No idea where his family came from but it appears not to be an Irish family
Lots of Tancocks in Devon and Yorkshire.
Read somewhere that Tancocks went to Ireland but it gave no detail
