Margee

Thank you for your posts, that definitely ties them together, I can't find another Frederick Peck so the baptism and his birth is 1821/1822, and that agrees (timeline/age) with the death I found in 1895.

I also think I have have found them in 1891 - He is in the Stepney Union Workhouse - and I think she is in Mile End Old Town Workhouse but under the name Matilda Fredericks (not able to find another Matilda Fredericks yet).

I am still on the Peck trail, and have found what I believe to be the marriage of her parents (Frederick and Matilda). Using FreeBMD, putting in Frederick Peck with spouse first name Matilda, I get a whole 1 result occurring in December 1846, and on the page only one Matilda (Cattley) - think that will probably be them!

So my question for this evening is: How can I (Can I) be sure that I am connecting Emma Peck (circa 1851) to the correct parents - or is this marriage the closest connection I am likely to get?

I've found a baptism for a Frederick in March 1822, but this does not agree with a Frederick death in 1895 (aged 71) or Census - then again whoever registered the death might not have known his age (or for that matter, nor might he). Even if these connect - will they connect to Emma?

Think I've answered my own question, but any other ideas gratefully received.

Thank you

Of course, that makes sense and could be the reason I can't find her.

Her birth may not have been registered as there was no pressure on parents to do so until around 1874.

(Sorry, I know that doesn't help).

Still struggling finding a birth (that I am reasonably confident with) for Emma.

Using the 1861 posted by Andy my Emma is with parents and siblings prior to marriage. They are living in Ernest Street which is close to Cologne Street (residence address shown on marriage cert for Emma). Now I need to prove it is is her. I can feel a Birth Cert purchase coming on but can't find a serious contender.

What I 'know'.
Emma was aged 24 in 1875 (born circa 1850/1851),
Emma on 1861 birth year is 1851
1871 (I have a possibility as a servant) birth year 1853
1881 birth year is 1851
1891 - not found
1901 and 1911 birth year is 1852.

So should be easy to find her (using year range 1849 to 1859) but nothing seems to fit.

The closest certs seem to be in 1857:

Surname First name(s) District Vol Page

Births Jun 1857 (>99%)
Peck Emma Jane Shoreditch 1c 138

Births Dec 1857 (>99%)
Peck Emma Amelia Mile End 1c 561

To make it worse there is this possible death

Deaths Dec 1936 (>99%)
Owen Emma 84 W.Ham 4a 91 (making her born circa 1852)

I would appreciate some help please - and I know that all of the records I have so far could be based on inaccurate birth year information and she could be an 1857 Emma.

Thank you

Ah yes definite possibility (didn't try Pack!), thank you - that also helps as I did see a Matilda Emma birth - but ignored it!

Just looked at the list again, two daughters Matilda and Emma, so need to review the births again!!

I have the marriage certificate for Emma Peck (spinster), she married Charles Owen (bachelor) in October 1875 in Stepney (GRO Ref: 1C 1177). He was 26, father Thomas, they were both Printers; she was 24, father Frederick, a labourer.

I have located them on the following Census records (with burgeoning family):

1881 Census at 8 Dalgleish Place, Limehouse, London
(moved to Kirks Place by October 1883)
1891 Census NOT FOUND
1901 Census at 39 Jupps Road, Mile End Old Town, London
1911 Census at 28 Carlton Street, Canning Town, Essex

On the 1881 Emma is shown as born in Bow, on the 1901 and 1911 as born in Stepney – close enough to each other.

So with the above information I thought it would be fairly easy to trace Emma with her parent(s) and possible siblings – but so far I have been unable (I believe) to find her birth or any sign of her prior to her marriage.

Does anyone have any ideas please? I would appreciate some assistance with finding her.

Thank you
