There are two James Thompsons b 1853 with wife Margaret - one is in Darlington the other South Shields. Are either of these locations likely ?

Neither occupation was a butcher... sorry

Marian

Marian Report 14 Jan 2013 20:23

Darlington is more of a possibility.

If you are looking for ancestors, then you should start by buying a copy of the marriage certificate:-

Marriages Mar 1877 (>99%)
Fishburn Jane Ann Auckland 10a 187
JOHNSON Margaret Auckland 10a 187
Jordan Joseph Dawson Auckland 10a 187
Thompson James Auckland 10a 187

............this will give you his father's name and occupation which will help find, or confirm any findings.

If James did die, then he would be noted as deceased on the marriage certificate of the children. You will need to buy a copy of one of them to be sure.

It's also possible that his wife Margaret remarried if she did not also die.

Marian

Marian Report 14 Jan 2013 22:18

I now think they may have both died especially with both boys being with Margaret's parents. I will have to pursue my investigations.
