Welcome to the boards.
Have you got her name from a birth certificate?
There must be lots of females called Mary Gregg - do you know anything else about her?
Thank-you

The only information I have is listed above. This information was obtained from Walter Gregg's Birth certificate dob 26.02.1877 who is my grandfather. No father was named on the certificate. Walter Gregg first appears in the 1901 census. I have no information of his early life. I have details of his naval career. He first enlisted age 16. I have tried without success to find residential school that feed the Royal Navy .... any suggestions?
I have looked at the local work house in Bedminster Bristol where Walter was born. I have written to childrens homes but have had little response. I have searched the trees of numerous Mary Gregg's aged 16 - 35 at the time of Walter's birth. I would appreciate any help available.

Thank you
Phil Gregg

I could be completely way out with this one?

As you haven't found Walter on the 1881 or 1891 census I was wondering if he was lurking under a different surname i.e. that of a stepfather?

I don't see a birth registered for a Walter SImmonds to match the above. There is a Male Simmonds registered in the June quarter 1877 but his death seems to be also registered in the June quarter 1877.

I don't see that Walter on any other census nor do I see a death for him at the moment.

When and where did Walter marry? When did he leave the navy - not finding him in 1911.

Gregg is an Irish/Scottish name, so I wonder if Mary was Irish?
