I started looking into my family history about a year ago and with the help of some very kind people I was able to get back to my great, great, great grandad.
Sadly my uncle passed away this week but because of the family history we thought it might be nice to bury him with my great, great, great grandad as we found his grave. Due to it being the 1800s, his name on the grave is 'Harrocks' instead of 'Horrocks.' I think that it is a simple spelling error but I could be completely wrong.
We're currently arguing with the priest at the moment because he will only let us bury my uncle with solid proof that we're related to George.
I've spent a lot of time looking through censuses but I seem to struggle when we get up to George. I'll post what I have from my uncle up to George:

Alexander Horrocks - 23/02/1946-10/01/2013
Son of:
Harry Hardman Horrocks - 04/03/1913-02/06/1983 & Winifred Keenan 01/03/1914-16/08/1989
Son of:
Daniel Horrocks 1873-1933 & Elizabeth Hardman 1808-?
Son of:
James Horrocks 1831-? & Ellen ? 1830-1886
Son of:
George Horrocks 1806-1877 & Ellen Aughton 1808-?

I would be so grateful if anyone could offer me help with this, it would mean a lot to me and my whole family.

Location is Liverpool. Whoops didn't even notice that big mistake with Hardman.
Yes he is buried under George 'Harrocks' in St. Chads in Kirkby.
I'm pretty sure Daniel was in Kirkby not Whiston.
I've looked through the censuses and it seems that Daniel was the son of James and Ellen.

Is Daniel's DOB on his death cert ?

Don't rely on censuses.
Certificates are needed in this case if you want to be sure you have the right line.

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 15 Jan 2013 19:44

No his DOB isn't present. I've got a birth certificate which is Jan-Feb-Mar 1873 and death Oct-Nov-Dec 1933. All I know is that he died being trampled by horses as he was a carter if that helps?

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 15 Jan 2013 19:47

Elizabeth Hardman birth was 1872 not 1808 - big blunder!!

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 15 Jan 2013 19:56

I had Daniel's siblings down as Mary (1863) , James (1867) and Ellen (1869). I never knew Daniel's mother's surname the person who helped me last time said it was unknown.

If as you say you have Daniel's birth cert, it would tell you his exact date of birth and his mother's maiden name.

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 15 Jan 2013 20:03

Just says year of registration 1873 and Jan-Feb-Mar district West Derby Lancashire, no maiden name.

Death Dec 1933 in West Derby, Lancashire, England

Parents

Rebecca, a birth record entry is not a certificate.

You need to buy certificates from the General Reg Off.

You can apply online, here's the link

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

You also need to cross check Daniel's marriage certificate for his father's name and occupation.

Thanks so much for that help :) what do you think I should do next?

Mike * Report 15 Jan 2013 20:13

If it was my problem I would start with the uncle's birth certificate followed my his parents marriage cert and then their birth cert and so on... till you can prove the unbroken line.

Could be expensive, it depends how much proof the vicar needs to use George's grave.
