Eringobragh1916 Report 19 Jan 2013 09:30

Morning James...
Thank you for the above ..its what I was hoping for...!

The family went out to Springfield ILL.all be it individualy.

James (44) and Anthony(18) went out from Glasgow on the Calendonia arriving Sept 16 1906 destination daughter Susan Clusker living ..looks like Oak Park Springfield Sangamon Co.

Mary McDade Clusker followed on the Califonia arriving 29 June 1907 she was with James (16) Nellie(11) John(10)...going to husband 14 Ask St Springfield. the clarity of the address was not that clear but she also gave last address in Scotland as Stain Place Shotts...that was very clear. All stated b Fauldhouse

Catherine Clusker stayed home and married Philip Mclaughlan they travelled out on the Columbia arriving Oct 5 1913 with their 7 children..going to Mary McDade Clusker...2169 South 16th Street Springfield.

Anthony married an Agnes Graham in ILL. sometime after 1922..firsat child Mary b 1923 then James then Agnes .Anthony died 1928 buried Calvary Cem.
Cannot locate Patrick b.1901.

From what I can see James Clusker was a Corkman and his parents were Patrick Clusker and Nellie Philips.
Mary McDade Clusker was b Fauldhouse and the daughter of Dominic McDade/McDaid.

Philip McLaughlin was probably a Donegalman..nok his mother Brid.McLaughlin Cardonnagh (Co.Donegal)

Below Philip and Cath. on the mainifest was a John and Mary Kennedy plus 4 children staing they were going to Aunt Clusker (same address 2169 South 16th St.) the nok in Scotland was a Jane Kennedy (Mother) ..?? buildings Motherwell..This family has a line going through so I am thinking they didnt travel.
All the above comes form the Ellis Island data base and Family search.

Gins,

Thanks for that, had not got round to looking at the Watson's in the Scottish Census Records yet, been to busy dealing with the Susan Clusker/Peter Graham issues.

As to why the youngest child have the name Graham I have no idea, will have a look on SP tomorrow but as birth is before 1855 it won't tell me very much :-(

Going to log off for today as my eyes are starting to play me up.

Gins,

I have been pondering over your post:-

Name: Grace Graham
Gender: Female
Birth Year: abt 1926
Mother's Birthplace: Scotland<<<But this doesn't fit, as Mary was born, Illinois

Possibly Susan Graham nee Clusker was her mother as Susan did not die until 1928 and Susan was born in Scotland.

Gins, thanks, this one looks right,

1940 United States Federal Census
Name: Peter Graham Junior
Age: 26
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1914

I am minded to believe that he was the Peter born 1914 in Lesmahagon in Scotland, his family had connections there. In 1940 he would have been 24 and maybe he grew up under the impression that he was born in Illinois like his other siblings.

His grandmother Mary Watson was from Scotland and died in 1928 in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois and his grandfather Peter Graham was born in Lesmahagow and died in 1923 in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland and Hamilton is less than 10 miles from Lesmahagon.

James

The 1920 census had Peter (The son) born Scotland but the 1930 has him born Illinois

I suspect that he was born in the US, otherwise it would mean the family had gone back to Scotland, had him and then back to the US - according to the other children' births

Gins,

Not sure what her correct maiden name is, could be Karnes or Sawyer, my thoughts are that she was married before and one is the name she took in that marriage and the other was her birth name, which is which I have no idea :-S

Hi Gins,

It probably is worth some looking into as it could possibly be Peter and Mary's daughter.

I am not familiar with many search methods including some BMD facilities and my poor eyesight coupled to my restricted use of some of my fingers after a stroke I sometimes have problems using my keyboard.

James

name: (Karnes) Mary O. SAWYER

The birth year you have for her is way out according to the two censuses that I pposted

Is her surname 'Karnes' or 'Sawyer'

This might be worth some digging to check if this is Peter and Mary' daughter?

I'm not familier with BMD certificates for the above Counties, some have more restrictions than others.

Thanks Margee,

Possibly a different Susan as my Susan was definitely born in Uphall, West Lothian, Scotland on 17/04/1886.

However my Susan's mother was a McDade and her parents may have come from Ireland just like her father James Clusker's parents.

When I am finished with sorting out Peter Graham and Susan Clusker's children I will look into that further as the only McDade I have in my tree at the moment is her mother who is a Mary McDade.

Best Wishes

James
