OneFootInTheGrave Report 23 Jan 2013 09:19

Morning mgnv, thanks for that,

Can I pass my present thoughts by you, if we accept that the Jane Clusker in the 1930 Census is in fact James Clusker, I have in my tree a James Clusker born c1856 In Ireland.

He married Mary McDade born c1857 and they had a daughter who I have as a Helen Clusker born 1893 in Scotland and on the 1901 Census her name is shown as Ellen.

Therefore it would be a reasonable assumption for me to accept that the above Helen/Ellen Clusker was the wife of Alexander Cummings.

Go on, say it, I have got :-S and have been going round in circles

Best Wishes,

James

James...If you go back to page 3 of the thread you will see that GINS has actually shown that the "Jane" is actually male on the original...

(I missed that myself)...so yes you may be correct in the assumption...

Morning Eringobragh1916,

Unfortunately, from all the information posted, much of which I have found very useful, I also missed Gins comment stating that, had I picked that up I could have saved myself a lot of grief.

Regards,

James

James..I know the feeling..this family is giving me nightmares..!! So much info ...I think we may all have gotten mixed up and side tracked...Spent hours looking for "Jane" and Ellen on immigration..well now I know the answer...but thats the way it goes..anyway the positive is we now have a time line for Mary McDade's death...somewhere between ?1920 and 1930...(Please dont tell me thats somewhere in the post as well!!) Just noticed Mary's not on 1920 census...!

I have not got round yet to dealing with Mary McDade nee Clusker's death, at the moment I am sorting out my tree to accommodate Alexander Cumming and his family. Once I have dealt with Alexander Cumming and his family I will be back tracking on the post to pick up items I may have missed.

I noted the Burrow's connection as step parents, if I am correct this is the James Burrows who married an Isabella Duncan on 29 November 1872 in Lasswade, Midlothian,Scotland.

Eringobragh1916 Report 23 Jan 2013 13:16

James....I am not sure that marriage can be correct ..you are likely looking at one post 1890 as Alex Cumming/s was aged 17 when he travelled 1908 so b abt.1890 give or take a year otherwise Alex would have had the surname Burrows...

You may find checking 1901 Census for Alred/Alfred Burrows (Son of James) 169 Buchanan St. Coatbridge may give some info.

(See thread details page 4 ...12.39)

Eringobragh1916,

The image available for the birth of Malcolm Cummins on SP was illegible so I e-mailed them to that effect.

They have just e-mailed me a copy of the original and it confirms he was born on 25/02/1878 to William Cummins and Isabella Cummins m.s. Ferguson at 24 Muslin Street in Glasgow, and that his parents were married in December 1872 in Coatbridge.

Excellent ...Now thats another branch although not directly related but nevertheless interesting from the Ellen Clusker and Alex Cummings side of things...
The address for Burrows (Coatbrdge) was the one James gave for nok in Scotland on the Manifest (1908)..wonder who was there 1911?

mgnv Report 23 Jan 2013 19:11

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES
A search of "Illinois, Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947" for Clusker (exact) gets:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N3DK-W3T
so John P=John Peter

PS I spotted Gins's James/Jane comment on the umpteenth rereading of the thread, so that's why I went back and checked the original image and made my supplementary comment.

mgnv and Eringobragh1916,

At long last I have found the birth certificate for Alexander Cummings, he was born to an Isabella Ferguson on 31/08/1890 at Coatbridge in Lanarkshire.

It appears that her husband William Cummings was not his father as there is a declaration on the birth certificate to that effect and something about she has not had any communication with William since he went to America 9 years before the birth of Alexander, due to my eyesight I cannot read it properly :-(

Eringobragh1916,

I have sent it to you.

I have also got to the bottom of the Burrows connection, from SP :-)

1896 BURROWS JAMES CUMMINGS ISABELLA ANDERSTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 0374

Isabella married James Burrows on 08/10/1896 at Minerva Street, Anderston, in Glasgow, Scotland after The Sheriff Substitute of Lanarkshire granted a Warrant on 08 October 1896 following a declaration in the precence of Malcolm Cummings and Robert Wright Cooper.

OneFootInTheGrave Report 26 Jan 2013 15:15

In an earlier part of this post Eringobragh1916 said my family was giving him nightmares, nothing compared to the nightmares the Kennedy family in this post are giving me, mark you at my age it does not take much to :-S me.

I have spent a large part of the last few days going back over this thread trying to find something that would lead to a definite connection between the Clusker's and the Kennedy's, have been going round in circles, and I keep coming back to rootgatherer's posts for the Kennedy births showing the mother as being a Jane Dickey/Dickie. Maybe I should be looking for a connection between Dickey/Dickie and Clusker instead of a connection between Kennedy and Clusker.

I am determined to crack this providing I can retain my sanity.

Eringobragh1916 Report 26 Jan 2013 16:30

James ...Can you clarify the following...You have ....

"I looked at the marriage on SP for, John "Kennedy" and Mary Reynolds 1901, but no clue there to any McDade or Clusker connection.

I then looked at John "Reynolds" parents marriage, a Richard Reynolds and Mary Lafferty 1873, and again I drew a blank."

Who were the parents of John and Mary from the MC....
