The information that Henry definitely married Elizabeth Barfield has enabled me to rethink his birth date and I have now managed to find what happened to him. He was deported for arson and went to Tasmania. I have seen the trial transcript and the ships passenger list also a 3rd marriage. Also got in touch with someone in Australia and now have a name for his brother and father. I have waited 5 years for this breakthrough! I am very grateful to you all. Ruth

Thank you to everyone for your replies. I notice William, Caroline and Thomas Newell appear to be boarding with another family. Anyone know if this was common and what the reason might be? Williams second name was Barfield and I wondered if this could be his mother's maiden name but have so far not managed to find an Elizabeth Barfield.

I am trying to find Williams father. He was possibly called Henry and possibly from Northamptonshire. William is my paternal great grandfather.
