... maybe you have the wrong Robert Leigh there ?

As his parents married in Manchester it's most likely to be the Chorlton birth in 1893 not the Chorley birth in 1894.

If he is the one born in Chorley then his parents were not Ben Leigh and Mary Roberts.

The Staffordshire marriage may not be him, unless you know for sure Marjorie, as there are several Robert Leighs that it could be, born in Staff's.

It looks like the Robert LEIGH in the April-June Chorley reg 1894 is the WRONG one. I never sent for the record. Unfortunately I "assumed! I do believe he is the Robert LEIGH Chorlton birth 1893

Robert was aged 19 when he married in 1913 per marriage record.

Ben LEIGH , Robert's father was indeed an engineer. He worked for Davis-Metcalfe, an engineering firm in Romiley Cheshire.

On the birth cert. for Constance Marjorie LEIGH, Edith Leech LEIGH'S address is given as 23 Lyme Grove, Romiley and that is the address for Ben LEIGH in the 1915 electoral register.
Robert's father's name appears on the marriage certificate for Robert and Edith LEECH m. 11 Feb. 1913 occupation- mechanical engineer.

I presumed Robert's 2nd marriage was to Lillian GREENHALGH because that marriage record states Chorlton. Yes, I should know better.

I did not realize I could find the names of the children for Robert LEIGH and Lillian on Freebmd..I will certainly check it out.

I hope to find Robert's date of death and if he had children after he remarried. My grandmother and mother have passed on and no one is left who knows anything about Robert LEIGH.

The other thing you might try is to get Robert's birth cert. If he died 1970-2006, his birth date will be shown on death indexes (assuming the informant knew it!). Relies on luck a little, but might be worth it.

This appears to be the Robert in the 1901 above, but name different?? Are we saying this is him or not?

I am overjoyed! I did not have the name of Mary Ellen's father, nor do I know anything about her date of birth etc. You have opened another door for me and I THANK YOU.

I am new to Genes Reunited and am trying to get use to this format. What information I have I found several years ago before the internet became a place for family research.

I believe Ben LEIG'S father Robert, was b. in 1839
Birth reg. June quarter 1839 Robert LEIGH Chorlton vol. 20 page 22
I found a William LEIGH in the 1841 census, Back Bow Lane, Openshaw; aged 28, est year birth 1813, male; civil parish Manchester etc. Martha LEIGH age 27,,Benjamin age 6 Frances age 4 &**** Robert age 2.
That comprises what I have.

I hope to learn more about Robert LEIGH the schoolmaster and need to find the date of his death.
