I couldn't find a death or a re-marriage for her. If it's the right person it is possible that she has died since 2006 when the online index finishes or she could still be alive.

Could she have been taken in and brought up by neighbours?

My grandmother died in 1931 just six weeks after giving birth to my aunty. My grandfather already had 6 children to bring up so the new baby was brought up by neighbours who "fostered" her and brought her up as their own although she kept in touch with the rest of her siblings and kept her own name. My mother as the eldest daughter at age 13 had to leave school to look after the other children.

I did think that she may have been taken in by marions family but as I can't find marion on the 1901 or 1911 cencus I don't know if she had brothers and sisters. unlike your relative she never kept in touch and it seems John didn't keep in touch with her as his later children don't know anything about her.

This looks as if it could be Marian in the 1911 census:-

1911 census transcription details for: 90 Roebuck St West Bromwich

National Archive Reference:
RG14PN17283 RG78PN1061 RD371 SD3 ED1 SN57

It looks as though her mother remarried to George Perry.

If the above family is correct then it looks as if Marian had a brother Daniel. This could be his marriage:-

This looks like the marriage of what would be Marian's half sister Eunice:-

This would then be the marriage for the George Perry on the 1911 census posted earlier:-

It looks as if Marian Guest (born 1897) was born before her mother married Daniel Timmins which is why she married herself using Guest as her surname even though she is on the census in 1901 using the Timmins surname. This looks like her birth:-

Name: GUEST, Marian
Registration district: West Bromwich
County: Staffordshire
Year of registration: 1897
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 Q3

was just going to reply to you i thought that about her but daniel was born after daniel died and b4 she married george so who's child was he?then they are timmins on 1901 then back to guest in 1911. there is a tree on ancestry for george married to mary timmins but no info about her, and 1 for daniel but again no info for mary.
its really marian 1920 that i want to find out what happened to as if she is still alive 3 of her half siblings are still alive also if she died after 2006 would the record be at the archives do you know? perhaps one of george and marys other children took her in!!!

A possible for Marian (born 1879)'s mother's death:-

Name: PERRY, Mary
Registration district: West Bromwich
County: Staffordshire
Year of registration: 1949
Quarter of registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 69
Volume no: 9B
Page no: 956

Not that this helps with finding the young Marian I. Evans whereabouts but I thought if you could manage to contact someone who has any of this Perry family in their tree they might have some knowledge of the baby girl who seems to have disappeared.

You might find a death if you knew which register office in West Bromwich they used. I can't find a death on Findmypast which goes p to 2006 so it would be after that date but this is assuming that she kept the Evans surname and didn't marry.

If she was taken in by one of the other family then her surname could be anything.

It might be worth worth trying to trace any of the Perry family forward and try to contact someone in that family to see if they know anything about Marian born 1920.

Daniel's name would be on the birth record as Timmins even if his mother's husband had already died as that was his mother's surname at the time. It was probably just easier to call him Guest later on as that is what his sister was called. I don't suppose you will ever really know why.

Jacquline Report 24 Jan 2013 15:46

just thought mary could have took marian in untill she married as if the one to joseph ball 1939 is correct and mary didn't die till 1949 if only there were later cencus.

KathleenBell Report 24 Jan 2013 15:56

It might be worth getting the 1939 marriage certificate for Marian I. Evans to Joseph H. Ball and see who that Marian names as her father. Of course even if it's the right Marian she may not name John Evans as her father if she wasn't brought up with him - unless she was made aware of her birth family.

The 1921 census is still a long was off being released but Marian (the baby) should be on there but probably still with her parents since her mother didn't die until the end of 1921, so even that is not going to be any help. The 1931 census was destroyed and 1941 census was not taken because of the war so it looks like census are not going to help you at all.

I hope I am just as difficult for my descendants to find as some of my ancestors have been for me, lol
