I am trying to trace my husband's ancestors. we have managed to go back a few generations. To the point where Katherine Grey ( Maesteg 1856) travelled to Falmouth - where she met and married Alfred Oates (1855) . they appear in the 1881 census in Constanine, Falmouth. I have also managed to ascertain that Alfred was born in this area and was baptised in 1855 & that his parents were William and Ann Oates.
Does any one have Alfred & William in their family trees & if so can you shed any light on their ancestors.
My children are convinced they must be related to Lawrence Oates who accompanied Scott to the Antartic with his horse named Christopher - purely because their dad's (my husband) name is Christopher. My mission to trace the ancestors and either prove / disprove this theory. :-D
