The tree belongs to a ronaldwebb, as for connecting William to your tree, his army records link him, but you could apply for his birth cert from groireland.ie or even his marriage.

Jane....Havergale House Boarding School was an Protestant Orphanage but also known as a "Blue School" ..definition of that..known to provide outstanding education..however I dont know if that was the case then...regime was extremely strict. It may also have catered as a Boarding School for boys of Military Personell as a look through the Census has boys from everywhere not just Ireland and if you look at this site there is a very good photo....

Do I look for information on Joseph,born1864, Bernondsey.to find his parents,or keep my research to William.I'm at a brick wall.

I was searching for W.M birth year as 1888 so that the reason I was unable to get anywhere. The family tree is it Mitchell or Foreman tree

Do you know what kind of boarding school it was.maybe for bad boys school.
Now I can try and connect WM to my family and see how he was related to my late father.

Maura..That fits nicely with what I found..and at long last have managed to find ref to William's age when he committed the murder..!

"Mitchell, 24, was then charged with Robert Dixon’s murder. Found guilty at his court-martial in April, he was sentenced to death, his execution following at Dublin’s Mountjoy Prison on June 7th, 1921."

Many thanks for your information ,So it was Hardie who murdered the man Dixon and Mitchell was hanged for the murder.
I will take a look at WW1 Docs and see if there is any infomation there.
I will also look out for the book- Tudor's Toughts .

Jane....There is plenty of info.relating to the murder and also someone who was writing a book about Wm Mitchell..



Tudor's Toughs by Ernest McCall "alludes to the execution of a mysterious Black and Tan or Auxilliary. This must refer to William Mitchell hanged in Mountjoy on 7-6-1921. William Mitchell & Arthur Hardie, (both Tans) who were based at Dunlavin RIC Barracks, set out to rob a local JP (Robt Dixon) and, in the course of the bungled robbery, Hardie shot the JP and his son. Robert Dixon died. The next day, Hardie committed suicide, leaving Mitchell, to be tried by court-martial and hanged".

There is a an indication that on the morning of the execution Mitchells wife and small baby were outside the prison.

Given that he served in WW1 there may be a note of his parents in the WW1 Docs.

The person who was writing a book stated they had lots of info..
Perhaps it was your family member..????
