Lol!!! How strange, I found the same info myself today!! I was just coming on to put it down... Great minds and that eh? ;-)

I have spent the day on the phone to everyone! The adoption did not happen in Canada, nor Wales or Twickenham!! How mad!

My husband can initiate a intermediary service but he is not sure, so he is considering it as a possibility but alas from that there's not much else we can do. There is a register but the lady from GRO said tbh with the age and generation of the person she wouldn't advise it but the intermediary service is the best bet. (Which I found unusually helpful for a government service who usually want to fleece you out of every penny they can)

I will see if I can get a response from the funeral home and see where that goes I suppose

Thank you for everyone's help so far and shall update when I have info x

Also just to ask did anyone post on fb on a Penelope greenhalghs page? With a man with Curley moustache? As it came today on google notifications as new match but I thought it must be someone here? Thanks x

Perhaps she never was adopted but just assumed the name of whoever she lived with after her mothers death.

Definitely adopted as her birth cert states adopted on, and it's been out in by the superintendent reg, so it did happen and wales confirmed that this would only be put on when GRO get in touch to say update records they can see no name change on the cert so that means she either kept her name unchanged or assumed a whole new name

Yes, I remember you saying she was adopted now...silly me!

Is there a way to establish the ages of the Conroy children or is that impossible? Was wondering if any of them could be penelope with a name change?

Hello

Have you tried contacting Canadian archives ?

I found lots of info there, and got it free.

Hi dopeydoc

Was the information you was looking for recent? As I'm looking for information in relation to a birth 1943, and I thought canadians were very strict on records?

Many thanks
