According to the 1851 census attached to William Elliott / Margaret Dalgliesh tree on Ancestry John Calvert and William Blaylock are both sons of Catherine Elliott |

Thank you for that death link. I had tried that but only put in date from 1958 till - and left that blank. It came up with nothing !! I obviously havn't got the knack !! Thank you also for the marriage details. I am going to ring my cousin - the other John Calvert Blaylock - and tell him now. |

Thank you so much. Isn't it coincidental - Margaret is a name which runs through our family as well... I wonder if she was a Calvert before marriage. If so, she had the same name as my Aunt !!! I am grateful to you all. |

Gosh, I wonder if this is indeed the same fellow. I see the place of birth is Edinburgh - well it could be a slim connection as Blaylock is a name popular in Cumberland & Northumberland and Calvert is Yorkshire Dales and Northumberland. How interesting, thank you. |

Perhaps he's this one. He's a piano player from Edinburgh, he's a tourist to Canada and is destined to New York. |

During the past few days, bored and snow-bound, I started googling anything I could think of including my own name !! Sad really ! Anyway I googled my cousins name which is a unusual combination - John Calvert Blaylock expecting to get no results. Lo and behold there was a person of the same name on the electoral rolls for Australia from 1930 up until 1958. As Calvert is a family surname I was, and am still, curious about whether he is/was connected in any way. In 1930 he appears under South Sydney district of New South Wales but by 1943 he is in the Calare district where he remained until 1958. I tried to find him as an immigrant in 1930-ish but nothing and also looked for a death 1958 onwards - could find nothing. Has anyone got any brilliant ideas as to how I can find anything out as I am consumed with curiosity. Obviously this is not vital but I would love to find an answer. Thanks for reading. Any ideas welcome. |
