Hi Lucy, you need to use FreeBMD to find possible marriages, then look for possible offspring from that marriage using the surname and mother's maiden name and so on.

You'll probably need to buy certificates along the way.

Have a look too at some of the sites people have used above.

After much looking, please could you give me some advice how I advance to the next generation? With no census after 1911 this is proving difficult. I would love to know where you find your info... With thanks

Although this death is registered the quarter before the birth, it could still be the same person as a death has to be registered within a few days but a birth can be registered anytime within 6 weeks (and for a couple who have just lost a baby registering a birth is sometimes something that is put off a while).
